I was wondering what the consensus on COP replacements were, not including Granitelli's.

Are you talking about the actual Coil or the Coil Connectors?

the actual coils themselves.

I believe the consensus is that the stock COP coils are just fine the way they are...there are people here putting 500+ HP to the rear wheels using the stock COP coils.

I was referring to replacements due to malfunctioning stock ones. I've got over 125,000 miles on mine and it appears one may be shorting out, and others to be getting weak.

Ed it must be the SC sucking the life out of them!

Actually the valve cover gaskets aren't helping in that situation. Oil is running down to the spark plugs and stealing their thunder, but I think a coil has succumb to the heat and age of the beast.

I was referring to replacements due to malfunctioning stock ones.Gotcha, but my answer still stands. You excluded the Granatellis, and I've heard that the Accel ones are sub-standard, as is a lot of Accel stuff. If you need new coils, get stock replacements. IMHO. YMMV.

Just a note...

I'm running Accel coils with no issues...

No problemo. I also caught in another thread that even though the Granatelli COPs blow, the connectors are pretty good. Just FYI.

Actually I've seen to total opposite. Some tuners will yank Granatelli connectors, and replace the stock connectors before tuning.

Ed, that place in Tamarac, where we get the relays, has stock replacements cheap. You might try them and let us all know how they are.

I would, but I've cleaned up my coils and plugs, and the coils seam to be working fine. I just have to replace the valve cover gaskets so they stop dumping oil down on top of the plugs. It seems they get a little picky about firing while being submerged under oil.

Say, has anyone tried the MSD COPs?

They make them for 2 valve engines not 4 valve engines, at this time.

I have had good results with the Borg Warner COPs. Most of them had the motorcraft sticker with a sharpie marker coloring the part number out.

Used them in my 4V Navigator no problem.

I started this thread to table the issue of replacements for the stock coil. I have now come to find out that the stock coils on our cars are tough as nails. I was having issues of them not firing properly due to oil around the plugs(Alot of oil - plugs were submerged). When removed and cleaned with alcohol and reinstall, they performed flawlessly, which surprised me, since I figured they were old and tired. Though they may have degraded a bit over time, but not to where I notice any lack of power. Stock COP are the "****nick" in my book.

Oil cooled spark plugs. It's a good thing.

It's like firing a gun with a barrel full of oil. It will still work, but it ain't gonna be pretty.
