Ok guys maybe some of you have had experience with this..
"what the hell.. everything i write keeps disapearing..
damn it just wrote a book and its gone.. "
anyways.. since this might disappear as well... i'll make it short. after going to the gas station yesterday my car now has a, what i hope is not a rod knock noise. its very faint and it only at idle when the revs are coming back down.. i made a video on youtube below.. hopefully someone has some ideas that you could share with me.. i've read it can be anything from carbon build up that creates piston slap, to a tensioner, to even what i'm suspecting is Bad gas. take a look at the video if you would and tell me what you guys think.. i'm not sure where to start.. its not starting or moving till i get some more ideas. i'm hoping if it is the rod bearings that i've caught it soon enough to fix..

I would hope that bad gas was the culprit. Try some octane boost ASAP and see if that helps. With the gas prices as they are it seems some smaller stations are playing games.

Check your oil too maybe?:dunno:
Tap on the CAT's and listen for rattles, shouldn't be any, the engine is off. Use a wooden or plastic handle.

I have the same thing when I feed her the "Cheap Stuff"...Buy some Octane boost or some fuel injector cleaner...all will be fine.

Just remember that octane booster only adds 0.10 or 0.01 points of octane so you might want to grab several cans lol.

If it is from the cheap gas, it's probably from water in the fuel or something similar. Probably knocked some carbon loose, and that's what is "knocking" around.
I had the same issue with a *gasp* Fiat i restored last year. After starting the engine, it sounded like marbles being tossed in the cylinder. It did it multiple times, until the mechanic came to look at it, and it went away. We figured it was probably just the old gas siting in the can, or water in the fuel.

changed the oil. added octane booster and clean with seafoam but oddly.. no smoke. i used what the can says. the seafoam acutally seems to have quieted it a small amount but its still there but not quite a loud so thats making me feel a bit better.
i'm so down.. i love this car.. :-( i looked for 2 1/2 years to find a blue in my price range, drove to chicago to get her.. i would hate for the engine to be going..

Put some Marvel's Mystery Oil in your fuel. Follow directions on the container.

Did you put the sea foam in the gas tank or the PCV valve, it won't smoke if you put it in the gas tank

both now..
That sounded like a rod.
ugh.. would it be a constant knock knock if its a rod. as this is kind of like knock..knock..knock..knock.... .........knock..knock......... .........knock..knock..knock.. .........
when its warm..
cold i get nothing... nothing i can hear anyways...

I would make sure your gas is the right octane. You even said that it started making noise after you filled up.

The oil is at its thickest when its cold so that's probably why you only hear it when it warms up, do you have a warranty??
If it only happens when Its warm, Id say its carbon on the piston tops.
....the piston expands and the carbon is hitting the cylinder head.

No Zack it's a bug in the exhaust. You can see him exit at the end of the video. Puff...Puff....Pass.

I had something similar right after filling up with gas. I'm pretty sure it was water in the fuel. Although mine got a little worse while (moderate to hard) accelerating (mine is supercharged so it makes it worse to stand on it). I put a can of Heet (not sure of the spelling) in it and drove it real easy until the tank was empty, then refilled from a different station and changed the fuel filter. Had no problems since.

That sounded like a rod.
:dunno: I'm not sure about modular motors, but from my past experience with pushrod V8's with a rod knock is that it would make alot more noise on accel than decel.
Just my :twocents:

My experience from spinning a rod bearing in a 2.8 GM V6 (one of the worst engines ever made) agrees w/ the above comment, louder on accel

Get yourself a BIG jar of TECHRON and pour it into the tank on your next fillup.
Make sure it is the BIG jar, not the small jar.
The BIG jar treats over 21 gallons of fuel.
Burn the WHOLE tank of gas before filling up again.
Stay as far away from octane boost as you can.
It is nothing more than SNAKE OIL...
If the knock goes away it is nothing more than carbon buildup.
I had a really bad detonation problem and a jar of Techron cured it.
BTW, whenever you ask us to troubleshoot something,
we REALLY need to know what your mileage is !!!
