...Due to blown motors.
Stories like this make me feel this way: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,368921,00.html
I wonder how many clueless people will be tossing 87 octane into their cars requiring premium fuel, in the middle of summer heat. Maybe we'll see an influx of cheap MM's with blown motors because the owners listened to the media?
I agree with you. I have a spare motor waiting for the one thats a good buy!

I figure there are alot of OEM stock cars that could have issues with 87 in heat, but the second-hand cars that will be bought with 93 octane tunes or S/C's are REALLY susceptible if the buyer doesn't know how important premium fuel is to a car tuned for it.

"Can it run on regular?"
One of the first questions people ask at the dealership where I work...

I have not done the math yet, but perhaps one you guys have. I have the Lidio tuner (93 oct-stock gears-) am I getting better mileage with the tune over stock program?
I am getting ready to put over 3000 interstate miles on it next week and wondered if I should tune back to stock Thanks

There was only one time during my ownership that 5 gallons of 87 was put into my MM's tank and that was during the cleanup after Wilma at work.

Sorry to admit but I have run 87 several times due to bieng almost empty and it was the only gas I could find. That was over 2 years ago and no observable problems. Of cours my marauder is still stock and running jest fine thank you. The stock tune will run most any gas you put in it as long as you avoid WOT for extended periods. You just loose MPG and HP.

Hold on John, I also have a spare motor looking for a good home. I figure by the end of the summer it should be sold. :argue:

So this is the example of supply and demand not working in our favor. No demand or less demand for 93. Sounds like the article said that the station takes three weeks to use up...anyway you see where I am going....take the 40 cent spread out then. What kind of law suit could you have if you proved the 93 you are getting is much lower than advertised.... This is when I am glad that I have the meth alchohol as my saftey net...

Think of it this way, Marauders are still depreciating, they're getting older, and they're getting higher mileage. So they're starting to drop below to $10k mark. Add in a blown motor and we may start seeing clean dead-motor cars for dirt cheap pretty soon...
So yeah John you never know you may find a good deal to match up with that motor sometime, especially if the media keeps recommending 87 octane.

So, if demand is down, why doesn't the price go down???
That is what I am waiting for!

Overall I don't think there is much of a drop in fuel demand. I don't think overall fuel demand is changing enough to make any difference in price. It would take a substantial demand drop and some time. Yeah it doesn't take much to make the price go up though!
If demand for premium is dropping as substantially as they claim, most likely the price will if anything go up due to the extra cost to store fuel that's not used, and transfer lesser quantities and the cost of having to move more non-premium. Yeah it doesn't make total sense but if you think about it long enough there's atleast excuses in that logic to raise the price of premium even more.
Yay!

Well first I had to wonder if anyone would run 87 in a Marauder unless they have a tune that lets them. DR makes them.
Then again there are lots of stupid people out there.
On the plus side, the supply of higher octane gas should be plentiful for us.

all my regular fuel OBDII cars get better mileage on premium, enough that its cheaper per mile to use 91 in them, its all I buy.

Regular here is 86 octane at $4.499 and premium is 91 octane at $4.759 a gallon. 30 cents a gallon is cheap insurance over spenting thousands of dollars for a new motor. Do not be penny wise and thousands of dollars foolish! My MM was made to run on 91 octane. Regarding other's comments: I have noticed on some of my vehicles that higher octane will deliver higher mileage. Also, higher mileage engines have carbon build-up in the combustion chambers which changes the compression ratio and will require higher octane, so if your MM has alot of miles you better be running premium!
Remember if you add 5 gallons of regular, for emergency, it mixes with the premium left in the tank which is alot different than running regular octane all of the time.

Does anyone here know of anyone who has lost a stock Marauder engine due to running less than 91 octane in it? I don't remember hearing that story. I do know of one who lost an engine that was running 87 with a tune, but I don't remember hearing about anyone who lost a STOCK engine and that the blown engine was determined to be caused by the lower octane fuel.
Just curious.
