View Full Version : A perfect car ruined!

I own a S/C 2003 with only 14,500 KM on the clock, which is now very rarely driven and always garaged. I returned home from out of town and thought I would pick up the car and take it up town for a drive, as I had to go to the mall for a few minutes. I always make sure to park far away from other cars so as to avoid any dings. It's broad daylight and I was only in the mall for 15 minutes tops. I come out and it appears some A**hole took his fist and proceeded to punch the utter crap out of my roof. There are dints all over the place. I'm so pissed off, I can't even describe it. There was not a single mark on the car before. Unbelievable.

Lucky for the SOB that you didnt catch him in the act. I know there would be bloodshed if I walked in on that...

You got that right. As Rambo says, "When you're pushed......" Seriously though, people just have no respect at all.

Well, seeing as I'm an American, murder seems the obvious response...

+1, do some leg work too, taking a page from Motorhead's book, look around for any security cameras on your own and also think of any possible people who would have wanted to hurt you but are too cowardly to confront you.

It's not ruined dude that can be fixed. It least it was still there. Contact your insurance company, it'll give you a reason for fresh paint!

Good idea on checking for video.
Sorry that you had this happen.
Might have been kids/teenager that climbed up and jumped up and down on it. Hard to believe someone didn't notice whoever did it.

Try a paintless dent repair first. I had a limb hit my car in the driveway and it was $150.00 to make it perfect again.

Oh I bet plenty of people noticed. It's just that no one did anything about it!!!

I know if I saw something like that going on I'd call the Police. I only wish other people would do the same.:(

Sorry about the damage.:(

Make a Police report and turn it into your insurance company.
The best way to handle IMO.

It's sick to even hear that happened. Do everything by the book, and be thankful the interior was spared. Keep us informed.

After reading that, Im just picturing some bratty kid jumping up and down on your roof as the parents stand there and laugh.

If I caught someone doing that to my car there would be major hell to pay. A few dents in someones head along with broken limbs would make me feel a little better.

Check the surrounding businesses for cameras that would be pointed in that direction. Sorry about your car.

Thanks guys. Fortunately, I have vandalism insurance, so I should only have to pay a $100 deductible. All the same, it pisses a guy off.

It is unfortunate that my propensity to park at a considerable distance from other cars so as to avoid dings has likely contributed to making my car more available to vandals. It thus far appears that the likely location where the damage occured is such that no footage or witnesses are likely. This type of vandalism is becomming more and more common and the hard working law abiding people are the ones having to deal with it. It is perhaps fortunate that I didn't catch the person, as although I don't condone violence, I consider this act such an affront, that I would have no doubt caused significant harm to him.

Some people feel that you think you are better or have a better car than them when you park away from general population and they vandalize out of spite. Sorry for your pain! File an insurance claim.

I'm sorry to hear this... I too park as far away from the idiots as possible. I did have a conversation with a guy a few weeks ago that disturbed me and really stuck in my mind. I was talking to my friend about cars and how people don't respect well taken care of vehicles and classics. This guy was sitting on my other side and he expressed how much he hated people that park way out in the middle of the parking lot and, even more, those drivers that take up more than one spot. He said that they are all stuck-up jerks and he would always park as close to them as possible... Not only what he said, but his attitude, pissed me off and I told him that I am one of those "stuck-up jerks" and that he was an *********... I told him that by assuming that I am stuck-up, I should assume that he is a lazy slob that has never owned anything worth taking care of... It got a little bit heated after that and I offered him a butt kicking right before my friend & bartender asked him to leave. This was in OC and he was just visiting and my MM was nowhere near there as I was driving my F250. If my car was parked outside I would have worried that the stupid SOB would do something on the way out. He didn't...

Anyways, sorry for the long story but I do know that certain people take offense to this practice for some reason. I do understand their concerns when it comes to taking up two spots. Especially in a Mall or other busy parking lot with limited and/or full spaces. You weren't taking up two spots were you? I hope that this was a random event and not something like the asshat that I met... It worries me even more when I park my beautiful car in public...

Fortunately all of the dents were able to be removed via paintless dent repair, all 32 of them. Looks good as new. I just have to make sure I don't leave the car out of my sight again, I guess.

Get one of the viper alarms with the mini key chain, that tells you what is happening with your car at all times.

When I was in Oxford, in England, some guy, a couple years before, came out of his office to find a homeless guy keying his Bentley. He was a big guy and walked to his trunk, the homeless guy was shouting at him for being rich. He pulled a cricket bat, basically a flat baseball bat out and beat the guy senseless. He was arrested, charged with assualt and fined 700 quid, about $1300 at that time. He said it was worth every penny. Obviously the homeless guy was also arrested and had jail time as he had no money.

The Bentley guy said it was worth every penny, and it never happened again.

If they have no money for you to take, it can be worth it to take something else.

I just found out that on the weekend 4 or 5 vehicles were damaged at one of the nearby regional parks. One of which belonged to a guy in town who has a 2007 Corvette. The vandals used an axe!! They smashed out the front and back windows, with the axe cutting straight into the interior. The dash, in particular was smashed up pretty bad. It appears that they then drove up and over the hood of the Vette with a 4X4 truck. While I won't go into any sort of social commentary, it is very apparent that such property damage and other crimes are directly correlated to having a casino brought into town, which in turn has brought along with it individuals with a propensity for such acts. Anyone from Canada will likely understand the implications. However, that is a discussion for another time and place.

sweet zombie jesus! My condolences to the guy and hopefully it was well insured and that he finds the savage/s and with evidence like tool marks and tire prints, there must be a gold mine of proof for forensics to go on.

The car was towed to the bodyshop of the dealership where my Dad works. The car is a real mess. I did get clarification on one thing, however. The vandals caused the damage with an axe(s), but apparently it was the tow truck driver that backed right over the hood of the Vette. What an idiot!
