Here's a little game for you guys...
Can you spot whats unique (new mod) to my set-up...(No one else has it)
No...
It's not the heat shield, nor the blue connectors, nor the heat wrap on the hose...It's something no one (I believe) has done yet...

Ok,Ok...
I like that you guys, are having difficulty noticing it...
The beauty of this mod is that it looks stock...But is not...
http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=12 813&stc=1&d=1214023893
It draws .32 amps...and is hardwired into the car so that it will come on when the key is in the "on" position...
Notice, how the water tank is perfectly shaped to funnel air toward the filter...
http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=12 816&stc=1&d=1214092874
Sorry, still learning how to re-size...
But, you can see the fan is recessed, into the rad. core support...
http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=12 817&stc=1&d=1214091355
It puts out 85 cfm continueously...enough to lower my IAT's a significant amout...:D
Here's the final out come...
http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=12 818&stc=1&d=1214091355
My goal here was to simply lower my IAT's...and it does just that...in a clean and simple yet effective way...

OK .... so you put a Radio Shack fan on the inner fender (and scratched the hell out of the fender in the process). Does it flow air into the engine compartment or out of the engine compartment?

Thanks for the clarification, Professor...:2thumbs:
I apologize for taking it wrong...:o
No hard feelings, my friend...:)
To answer your previous question...
It pulls cool air from inside the front bumper and core support, and blows it right at the filter...
This fan puts out the highest cfm's, for the size required to fit in that location...
If I can find a stronger fan that is the same size (5 in.), I will certainly switch them out, as to improve it's effectiveness...
It has lowered my IAT's by 20* (degrees) :D

That reminds me, I have a computer that needs to be gutted. I'll just stop short of adding a label on the fender saying "Dell inside"
Local Boy

I imagine it works only at idle/low speed. Or did it lower the IAT at all speeds?
Local Boy
06-23-2008, 09:34 AM
That's the beauty of this simple addition...
Yes, it certainly is effective while idling...
Drove it for @ 1 hour, and parked it in the sun with 95* ambient temp, in this hot Hawaiian heat. Let it heat soak for about 30 min. Started her up, and scan gauge read 148* IAT's...Let it idle, and actually watched the IAT's drop to 127* without moving an inch!!!
It works great when moving also...
I have recorded 131* IAT's while driving, before the install...
Now, it sits around 116* - 118* while driving...and moves up to 127* while sitting in hot 95* ambient temp, traffic...Of coarse, it goes back down to 118* once moving again...
This is exactly what I had hoped it would do...
When thinking about this project, my first question dealt with basic physics...How do I get cool air (heavier, and naturally moves down), to come up, considering hot air moves up...
Looking at weather patterns, I realized that cool air will move toward areas of low pressure. So, I hoped that a small fan would create enough low pressure behind it, to draw cool air up from the front bumper cover, and move it directly in the path of the filter...
Since the factory meant to have our intake pull air from this area, it made perfect sense. I'm just helping it along by continously providing cool air for it to consume...
Just loving it!!!

Oops, sorry. I have been trying to lower IATs and underhood temps as well, despite what Tucker said about it not being a big deal. I sourced out some formed brake cooling ducts from SAAC that would fit in the foglamp holes, and searched other boards for other ideas for hot air extraction...WITHOUT hood vent, cowls, scoops etc.
This looks like a great mod, and I have HUGE numbers of fans like that from all the Stargate and Battlestar sets. Time to go scavenging in the Atlantis city set, or on the Galactica!:)

Think I'm gonna give it a try here in Sunny Hellish hot in the summer time Florida. Mine have been creeping up to the mids 120's at idle. Drop down to low hundreds when I floor it in the heat of the day. 1.1A draw though, the more air it pulls the more power you need to give it. I wonder if you could wire it into the IAT sensor and have it come on at a certain temp?
Local Boy

Sure you could rig it through a thermal switch...not difficult, if you want to add to your set-up...Cool...
I prefer to have it on, whenever the car is on...Here, in the islands, its always warm...
But, that fan sounds promising cougar9150...
Would like to see it though...pic not available???
Can you post some pics if you get it???
If it is right...I will swap it out...Cool...

I thought it was the location of the air suspension compressor muffler... I like where you located that... I just shoved mine in a crack somewhere when I put my k&n in... it still sits there very nicely too!
