I used Midnight Black fingernail polish, if you don't have a steady hand, there are plenty of young women around that have been practicing for years, give it a try, only $1.00 a bottle.

I love the look of the blacked out chrome trim but Im not into the idea of putting black tape on the outside of my car. It looks great but I feel it cheapens the car.

thanks for the replies.. nail polish has potential:shake: but nadine would want to go for a pedicure next:down:

if i decided to go with painting. sanding the chrome, priming, paint, then top coat, would the finished product stick good enough what yu tink?

maybe, but the good thing about nail polish is that if ever you don't like it, it will easily chip off.

I would go with the tape. No turning back with the above procedure.

You will need self ecthing primer and it will need to have all shine taken off or it will be an everlasting nightmare. The best thing you could do is take that crap duplicolor back and get your money back in your pocket. I decided on trying that on my hood and it was the worst quality paint product i've ever used and was repainted with dupont a couple days later and besides it is a laquer product so it will dry harder that any paint leading to cracks. Go with dupont or ppg. Remove all trim and prep and paint. Any other way is taking short cuts and kicking your own a$$. You will be real sorry if you sand too close to your body and mess that up. You should at least consider tape first to see if you like it before anything permanent. A quality primer, paint & base maker, clear & activator in quart cans will cost around $240.00. It is more expensive but far superior from the duplicolor at $60.00. Plus their black has a slight tinge of grey, ask me how i know. Just advice like you asked for and thats my most recent experience with that product.

Invest in a roll of the 3m tape. If you like it, get some more.
Don't try to sand and paint your chrome. You will not be happy with the results.

Definately go with the blackout tape, I have it on mine and I think it looks great! And the best part is, if you don't like it just peel it off.

Use "blackout tape"--it is especially made for this purpose--flat black--perfect match--mine has been on for over 50,000 miles in Texas heat--no shrinkage or gooiness--try it--you'll like it

I had a heck of a time finding 3M blackout tape, I even called 3M directly they wouldn't sell it to me and they couldn't tell me of a vendor near me that sold it, so I just went to pepboys and got "trimbrite" blackout tape, it looks just as good as 3M to me.

Local stores around here stopped carrying it, so had to go to the internet. Only problem is shipping is more that the actual product, so order in quantity to offset. Just ordered mine from http://www.autobarn.net/

My car already had the black out tape on it when I bought it and I never realize it until I read about someone else doing it on this site. It doesn't look cheep. It looks factory.

It doesn't look cheap, I think it looks cheap when you have rainguards and there is intermittant chrome
