Well after many months of waiting the GM is about ready to roll again. The pictures will be posted later today in this thread. They still have a few more things to do to wrap it up and I should be able to pick it up next week.
I will start in the rear as we changed the rear end and put a Eaton Carbon Fiber posi in it with 4.30 gears. We had Moser build 31 spline axles for it also. The tranny has been gone thru again and updated with many new parts and extra clutch packs in it.
The motor is a Cobra iron block and Cobra crank with a load of good parts in it. It is 9.3 to 1 compression. We used Sullivan Hemi style valve covers and polished the upper and lower intakes. The cams have been replaced with a custom grind that will work well on the street. It has a Vortec T Trim with an air to water intercooler. The radiator has been replaced with a aluminum one from Howe Racing that was custom built. I will post more about it when Ii have a better parts list in front of me. They have fired the motor and it has a neutral tune in it. It is putting out well over 500 RWHP at 13 pounds of boost! The pictures shouls be up a little later today.:burnout:

Welcome to the world of BOOST!

Any thoughts on what rpms you will be turning in 1/4 mile?

What wheels fit on the car? Do you have more choices with the GM than a Marauder?

I will be able to pick up the car next week if nothing else rears its ugly head. They have figured out the tuning glitch! The numbers are good and it still gets a little more dyno work today. 600 Rwhp and 540 torque. to start with. Paul will fine tune it from here and leave it in that range. Thats at 18 1/2 pounds of boost and 6500 rpm. Goona be a long couple of days waiting on it. They still have to drive it and will put a hundred miles or more on it before I pick it up. Tires will be the next issue for the street.

No its not! It was on the dyno for its last pull and it encountered a tranny problem. Parts will be here for It this week. Should hit the streets next week and I am keeping my fingers crossed! After the transmission goes back in it goes out for a driveability test and final adjustments. Trying to stay cool while waiting!

Pops
08-15-2008, 05:50 AM
Ok it has made a couple of trips down the road now. Paul says most everything appears to be good except for one very major problem. It is eating the tires like a kid with a big bag of M & Ms! It has traction issues at 100 mph as it will break the tires loose. So back to the drawing board on new tires that will stick on the street.

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I had a question about this beast...
Those headers - are they custom made? I know a guy who just made some for his Fiero, which had me thinking about making some for my car. If yours are, too, that will give me more motivation to come up with something for my heap.

And to continue the obligatory jaw dropping, that is one SICK car! Very nicely done!

Ok guys it has been a long time since an update was done. I went over to visit last week and heard the car run and watch a pull on the dyno. It made 663 at the rear wheels and 580 torque. This was at 6800 rpm and 19 lbs of boost. All that is left now is the road test to make sure she is ok. That will be a while with the weather we have had. The Transmission problem is fixed along with some other issues. The plumbing is quite differant than the pictures tht are up. The other interesting thing on the dyno pull was the fact that it was on pump gas and 14 degrees of timing. There is a lot more to be found later on. Goona be a long wait till spring now! :D

It looks great. Those valve covers are sweet. The Mach 1 does use COP coils just like the Marauder and Cobra. The '93-'98 Mark VIII and '96-'98 Cobra use the coil packs.

The Aviator also has coil on plug ignition. Almost the same engine.

How about in the rain?

You are a funny guy. If you need to ask how good the traction is on a certain tire in the rain on a high horse power car you just built that can break the tires loose at 100 mph you might as well ask how good is the tire traction in light snow? Would you even think of driving it in the rain ?
John congradulations on your new ride. She is a piece of art work & a performer. Well desirved.

I drive in the rain. Why not?
I wouldn't do it with drag radials or slicks, though.

Mike it has been the case of the disappearing car! Its home now and we are doing a few clean up jobs on the car now. Wirh all the changes that were made its caused some other work for us to make it look the way it should. Some plastic fillers need to be made as finish panels and wiring cleaned up. We also had to pull a door apart as the actuater had froze up! Should be on the road for Weds. September is when it will start seeing some road time as boating season is wrapped up then. If I am lucky I may be able to make a Weds. night test in tune before August is over. Gotta get some seat time in her! Good hearing from you Mike!:)

Time is getting short!...You might need that Prius for a back-up set of wheels!

I finally got the 31 spline axles in the MM. Now, I think I'll order a pair for Mad Max.

I talked to Mr Kuhn yesterday, and he claims he got the Marquis back 2 weeks ago, but hasn't driven it since the drive back to South Haven, from Jackson, where the work was done!

Is there anyone on this forum, that wouldn't be driving this car every day, to see what it drives like? Bueller? Anyone?

Now might be the time to make him an offer on the Marquis or the '64 Thunderbolt tribute car. He obviously has too many cars, and should get rid of one!

If you are interested, try a low-ball offer on him!! It never hurts to ask!

I agree, what with is truck, other DD, etc., I think he needs to thin out the herd.:D As much as I like the GM, I'm in love with the T-bolt, that would be the one I'g go after.
