Well, I headed out to the beach again last night, since I only live about 10 minutes away. It had rained quite a bit yesterday and was still overcast, but I thought what the heck. When I got there it was pretty gloomy looking:

I was just about to give up when I saw a glimmer of hope:

So I strapped on my 55-200 lens and started shooting in automatic:shake: I was not confident enough in my abilities to adjust the settings right for this picture perfect moment. So, I got several shots that turned out to be mush:bigcry::

Oh well, Now I know what not to do if that happens again!

Hey....where are the wedding pics????

We got the 'proofs' last week and are in the process of picking and choosing which ones we want. There's about 400 or so to choose from. There are several of your SB, although at night and the light is not the greatest. But still pretty good though. I'll post them up when we finalize everything. Patience grasshopper.................

Hey, I have half a hard drive of shots that are mush:lol:

If you learned from it that is what counts.

Keep shooting!

I did get a few better ones several nights ago, when it was less cloudy:

Compared to the Illinois sunset, I'll take any of them.

Second batch is nice

...and the first needed:
Shoot s-priority and try slightly longer exposures and adjust iso until you like the contrast. You may need a tripod with longer than 1/60 depending on whether or not you have some type of image stabilization.
1/30 at iso 320 might have been the trick. Perhaps higher and longer with an ND filter.

Ditto on the second batch.

Sunsets are a real challenge. You don't want your camera making the decisions for those shots. Like Barry said, go into shutter priority, or aperture priority and then tweak it with a little exposure compensation.

The secret is to get out of the fully auto mode and try different things. You are shooting digital, and it cost nothing to experiment.

After having said that, your second batch of pics are pretty damn good.

Nope - just a "once-in-a-lifetime" visit.

I live in the snowy Northeast.

I live in the snowy Northeast.Sorry, after I posted I thought about that. Anyhow, nice shots, and it's still not fair, because you were visiting paradise. :)
