Need the net's help and advise on if I can safety trailer my MM on a used 16 long bed trailer with a 4' dovetail that I am looking at buying. The dovetail is part of the 16 length. The trailer is 20' 7" long with a 50" long "A" frame at the front. It is wide enough between the fenders for the MM. The overall length of the MM is 212" with a 114.7" wheelbase (centerline of front tire to CL of rear tire). Rear overhang on the MM is 54.9" from rear tire CL to bumper. Apparently I would have 20" of the front of the MM overhang onto the "A" frame at the front leaving 30" from the front bumper to the end of the hitch. It is an open bed metal trailer in very good condition with a winch. I just am not sure of the 16' length. I would prefer an 18' trailer, but this one is really priced right. Has anyone trailered their MM, CV or GM on a 16' trailer? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

PS: Anyone have or know of a good used 18' trailer for sale?

IMO it is too short. There would be too much weight on the tong.
Try it before you buy it.
I have a 19 foot trailer with a 5 foot dove tail. (deck is 19 ft. including dove tail)

you may have trouble getting the mm up on the trailer if its not made specificly made for hauling cars. as in the bottem of the car may high center going up the ramps unless the trailer sits low enough. we have a 20ft (not including the toung) and my sisters mustang dosent go on easly with out backing the trailer up to a curb or something to level out the ramps.

I have an 18' and it works great for mine. As for the ramp angle, I carry 2 2x12's that are 24" long. I lay them on the last wrung of the ramp to give the bumper cover a chance to clear. Then when I have the rear wheels on the ramps, I move the boards to where the front wheels sit and then drive up until they are on the boards. This does two things; it lifts the front 2" so the door clears the left fender so I can get in/out and makes sure I never lose the boards!
I have about 12" in front of the car to the winch and the rear hangs over the back just a little. Plenty of room to strap it down front and back.
A 16' trailer is just too short. Probably why it is such a good deal...
When I put mine on next time I'll take some pictures.

John:
I decided 16' is too short and will pass on the deal. Thanks for the input. Post pictures the next time you load your MM, I would like to see your ramp arrangement.

Why would you need a trailer? Is your car really breaking that often?

I am pushing the limit of my stock engine internals at 480+ HP. I normally run the MM at Commerce which is over 100 miles away. It would be difficult to get it back home if I had an engine or trans issue. Just a precaution in case something happens. I have a nice used F150 with a tow package on it and I now need a good used trailer.

16' no problems here. deck is 160" dove tail is 34". front tire is stopped about 2 feet from front of trailer and the back tire is just infront of the dovetail, whole car is on the flat deck. Noexcessive tongue weight. Rear of car hangs over back of trailer maybe a foot.

That sounds exactly like how mine sits on my 18' trailer... Have you really measured your deck?
