I wonder if anyone has used there marauder in any of the open road runs. Like Silver state challenge or the like?

What modifications where done to the car or should be done for safe operation at high speeds.

Thanks

Tim

I have about 1000 road course track miles on my car. I am entertaining this event in Nebraska http://www.sorcrace.com/

Mods;
Wilwood brakes at all 4 corners
Metco control arms
Addco sway bars
Dunlop/Michelin 35 profile tires
Ford Racing tranny pan/cooler
Trilogy supercharger

Ideally I would like a 4/5 point harness, upgraded driveshaft and fire extinguisher.

I've been out there before. It's real pretty out in the middle of nowhere. I say go for it, looks like a blast!

I'm hoping to do the Silver State next year with a friend of mine. Safety equipment depends on what class you ru. Novices can only run in the lower classes their first time out, so no special stuff is needed. I bought a Schroth belt, a Snell 2000 helmet, and a box of Depends.

On the technical side, the only mods I would consider REALLY NECESSARY for sustained high speed are a drive shaft and (while the DS is out) a loop.

There have been many posts and discussions on this.

at over 130 sustained, I have felt stock on 3.55's and felt upgrade on 4.10's. There is no comparison. Upgrade the drive shaft.

Driveshaft and ds loop to start. I would say that the FHP Marauders would be a good model to start with, as they were modified for longer sustained higher speed driving. I don't remember exactly what mods were done to them, search around here for "FHP" and you will probably find a list somewhere. Mr. Reinhart can probably tell you, IIRC they were modded at his shop.

back in the 80s, there was a crownvic (79-85 boxcar)that looked like a U.S. Marshalls car, complete with licence plate that flipped over to reveal a fake marshalls plate. I dont remember the specifics, but it was a 170+ mph car, I think it was for one of the covert races.

Silverstate would be a blast an a gently equiped MM. Set the cruise at 120 and enjoy the ride without texas troopers giving you tickets.. haha.
