Gas prices increase.

Mercury wants to re-intraduce the Marauder with the intention of competing with the 8cyl suv's. Given the size of the Marauder could they.

I plan on buying the next, rear wheel drive V-8 car built by Ford, weather it be a Merc. Marauder, or Ford Interceptor, probably not a Lincoln, unless they finally build that "Hot Rod Lincoln".

Lucky you, Ford just sold Jaguar, V8 RWD Super charged Jaguars. Very expensive new. Very Affordable used. A 2005=2006 Jaguar S-type R can be had for $25K, XJR a bit more and a little bit more for the XJ8 Vanden Plas Super V8.

Fast, fairly big, beautiful, and much improved.

Except they are Tata's now.

Marketing would get ahold of it and change it to LUV.

Why would they bring the marauder back to compete with suv's

Gas prices increase.That's not a "what if"...that's a definite.
Mercury wants to re-intraduce the Marauder with the intention of competing with the 8cyl suv's.Where did you get THAT info?! Mercury is on its last legs and will most likely be the next divison dumped by Ford.

theres really no full size cars.
SUVS , a big percentage are owned by peoples who live in conjested ares, so where does the sport part work. nothing sporty bout them. my opinion they were bought for what? because the neighbor had 1 , so i want 1. as far as utility i don't see that being used. so with fuel prices high and there poor fuel rating, the full size auto is an economy auto that could do similer things. OK theres the 4 wheel drive, a small percentage use it.
so add performance to the title and bingo u have the Marauder class looking pretty good with Alittle redesign .

didn't write that with any info. just a thought.

Would you buy 1 if they did re design it? instead of an suv.

I just took a look at the new Flex.
Even though it's AWD or FWD it looks nice!
Early reviews are good and it reminds me of my first car - '65 Fairlane wagon.
Only the Flex is a lot nicer! The one I saw stickered at a little over $35K, all black with gray leather interior.
If I was in the market for a new vehicle I would definately give one a try.

The flex? Wow, that looks like the Scion Xb expert not in the mini cooper size. I serious wonder what Ford designers are doing - when did boxy car vans come back into style?

Ford needs to focus on trimming the fat with brands and models and start focusing on smaller goals if it wants to remain in business. Their stock is trading at 4 bucks - 4 dollars. Toyota trades up around 100. Ford is losing market share, consumers, and investors by continung to grind out new cars and trucks that never leave the show room floor. They need to rethink their business model.

awd/fwd nada

theres a nitch tht wants performce and utility. merc had a good idea with MM just didn't market it right, and didn't design it right. it was an after thought.
alittle reshaping will do.

Who has that photchop pic of a marauder wagon? If that were to come true I'd be very interested in buying one, as long as it had a decent engine in it.

If you could get a Marauder on a much more modern platform than the Panther, with a 5 or 6 speed automatic trans, then yeah maybe. It would also have to be capable enough to not need boost added to go fast. So that would mean stock boost, most likely.

The wife and I looked at one for more than an hour one night trying to find things we didn't like, we walked away saying that we would be buying the next years model, and we will. Seating for 6 or 7, depending on the layout you chose, unnumbered options available, 250+ HP, 6 speed auto, AWD. What more could you want. And yes I'm still getting the next RWD by Ford.

IMO the Flex is just too big, too low. maybe an Expedition owner would transfer into something like the Flex. It looks like a Scion on nandrolone (sic). the MKS looks good, but it's still too much $$ for peeps budgets these days when new.
I agree, ford better rethink, retool, instead of laying off and selling off to keep the books in shape.
I still have plans on keeping the MM and my 07 F-150, but on the wife's ride, I saved over $5K not getting into another Taurus X cuz the dealer ship didn't want to negotiate the price. bye bye Ford.

I really like the way the Edge looks. I know it seems like a soccer mom mobile but I kind of dig it. I like the Nissan Murano too... I'm not sure how I feel about the Flex.

I test drove the Edge, kind of liked it. and the options were cool too.
but the wife needed a bit more room ( third row). the fully loaded Edge was priced about the same as a Taurus X . about 800-1000 less.

i have it on my other computer. ill see if i can get it for you.

i have personally seen the Ford Flex and Interceptor up close. both are amazing vehicles. Interceptor had the plug pulled though.:mad2:

my next vehicle will probably be the Flex, especially if it can do this!!

If i was still getting my hours in at work i wouldn't think twice about finally buying a lightly used pearl white navigator for the wife. Have you seen the prices lately? We average 2500-3000 miles a year on hers, 3000 on the Marauder, and 15,000 on the escort for my job. I could care less about gas prices on the good cars. Now is the time to buy cheap. Why Navigator? Because its big (for me) and obnoxious and loaded with comfort. I'd just have to s/c it!

OK, Here is my question on the Flex.
A Mercury Grand Marquis LS sells for $30K+, 1 year old ones with 8 to 12,000 miles are selling for $12 - $15,000 out of Texas on Ebay. How much is that $35 - $40,000 Flex going to be worth in 1 year? From what I've seen the mileage sucks, not much better than a MGM.

What will the cost be for payments and insurance/license? $600+ a month for a 72 month loan. You'll be upside down until it is almost paid off.

I've pretty much bought only new vehicles over the past 20 years. My MM is the first used one and there will be more to come. I can't justify the depreciation anymore. Besides IMHO it is Fugly, now the Focus SES Coupe I could justify as a lifeboat for the MM. Rick

It would be nice if ford brought back the SHO. If I needed a car right now i'd seriously consider the Pontiac G8 (6.0l V8 with 361hp) loaded up for 30k.

the GM LS lists for $30, but with $6k in rebates, its closer to $25, and a little looking will get you closer to $21k.

most people I know with SUVs bought them because they were as close as you can get to a station wagon. some people have too much self respect to drive a minivan.

I'll likely wait until the very end and buy one of the last grand marquis built whenever that is, and then I cant see any further desire for any new car after that.

I'll just collect used Marauders...
