I am looking for a tow truck push bumper for my K5. The only reason this would be hard is because my trucks body style has been out of production since the 1992 model year as far as heavy duty trucks go. I was looking for one of those bumpers that is meant to push cars and has a brushguard too. I am fine with junkyard finds and would actually prefer used for a lower cost. Are these things universal or do i really have to look for one from 1973-1991 heavy duty Chevys?

I am not trying to bust my friend out of jail, I just watched The Hunter again and really liked the way that tow truck looked in the end. :P

Any help would be appreciated.

There's two ways I can think of, Dom. You can go to the on-line Cabala's catalog and look at the off road section and take a look at the brush bar kits etc. or think about using a wooden plank. I think they usually use Oak for this application. If you go with wood, you'll need to do the engineering, so far as spacers and attachment is concerned, but many do it that way, and it will save you some money.

A 4"X10" would work really nice.

Real trucks are built and not bought.

If you were closer I'd let you have some old bridge planks I have lying around. Those are 4"x12'x24' and are coated in creosote.

(Minnesotas last wooden deck bridge was torn down 300 feet from my house a couple years ago and I grabbed all the planking from it.)

At their current rate of deterioration they'll be here for another 100 years or so.

i ddnt make it, it came with the truck. and trust me i have used it MANY! times. ive pused other trucks, small trees, shopping carts, entire dumpster (ya i was bad when i was in high school, but man was it a blast) and many other things. the construction is quite simple its a 3/8"in+ plate steel made into a 5 sided rectangle. then the guy just welded on a piece of high schedual pipe and welded the lower pipes ont he side of the box. then he just made some brackets to mount it. you will find these to be fun to use

heres another angle

Push bumper from a tow truck weighs more than you want to push around, go with something like ImpalaSlayer has.

I kno0w what you are looking for believe me you do not want to push that around, do you know how much that weighs? Plus the big flat front defeats aerodynamics, and costs gas.

I have no idea how much it weighs, but if it's greater than 500lbs I think I will pass.

that is the attitude that puts hacked up **** on the road today.
if you can't build it, don't attempt to and think "oh it's good enough, i can say i did it.". pay to have it done right.
don't make me start posting examples of why people that can't, shouldn't.

and dom, about that bumper, it really doesn't look all that complex. It's a big piece of plate steel with a couple bends and some 1/4 inch flat stock.

It weighs considerably more than 500 lbs. It is not only a push bumper, but also a counter balance when towing, one that looks like it only made lighter, might be alright though.

ummm, what exactly is wrong with hacked up **** on the road? It doesn't sound like Dom wants to run his truck in the open class at the Silver State Classic.

what is wrong with it? it's unsafe. what if one of these people that hack's their ride together is cruising in front of you, and one of their bubblegum welds decided it's time to let go? the lose a part/crash and get your mm in the process. hmm....

"it's good enough"
"built not bought"

Thunderbolt will you relax? It's just a bumper, not a street legal demo derby car.

I understand that dom, but i take offense to the statement that real vehicles are built and not bought.
