View Full Version : won't start

I've looked in the new system, and became frustrated when nothing came up for "won't start". Thats the problem, it won't start, I put the charger on it, and checked fuses, and relays, that wasn't it, then I jacked up the front right, and crawled under, I attempted to jump the solenoid, and only got the starter to spin, but the bendix didn't move into the flywheel. I smacked it with a mallet, while the ignition was in the start position, no go. Is it the starter? When ever I turn the key to the start position it does nothing, am I missing something?

Starter....Use a dead blow hammer.

When you do the hammer to the starter....someone should be trying to start it as you hit it...

Change the starter. My GF's car and my friends T-bird recently started doing that. A new starter fixed the problem in both cases.

OK I spent $109 for a starter, it still won't start, nor will it turn over with the ignition switch, but when I jump the solenoid, it does turn over, but won't start. I loosened the neutral safety switch on the side of the trans., and tried to rotate it slightly, while the ignition switch was turned, nothing. Is the ignition switch bad, is there an easy test to make sure, and how much are they? Thanks for the help.

I've got the same problem with my truck....

ignition switch failure is more rare than a tired starter but same symptoms. Are you getting current to the solenoid from the key side?

What is the PATS light doing while trying to start?

It's blinking like normal.

what does it do when you try to start the car?
if it blinks when trying to start i think you have a problem with the pats system. if the light stays constant while trying to start your problem is elsewhere

Pull the small wire off of the solenoid and use a test light to check for power while holding the key in the start position. If you do not have power check the pats system or the ignition switch.

Only reason i say this is that while trying to start with a good programed key in my car the light is constant(not blinking). If I try to start with a unprogramed key it blinks constantly.

i have heard of instances where somehow the pats keys have lost or had an error its programming

It has a burned fuse in the PATS slot, I put a smaller Amp fuse in to start it, and go to the FLAPS to buy fuses, on the way it burned out, now as soon as I put a fuse in the slot in burns before I can start it. Whats wrong?

Hey I'm having problems starting my car. What fuse is the Pats slot?

Thanks,

i would say that probably the PATS/ anti-theft module has an internal short. just from doing some research. I personally dont have much knowledge with the pats system.

I do know that the stealership is always the way to go when the pats system takes a crap

What else is on that line? Do you have an alarm? If so, I would suspect the alarm install or parts failure, if not, see what else is supported by that fuse and check those circuits and components as well.. Richy

Powertrain Control Module (PCM) power relay, Coil-on-plugs, Radio noise capacitor, Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) Iwish I had a wiring schematic, at least then I could follow it down, by elimination, I guess it's another trip to the LM dealer.

I've got the same problem and have for the past year and a half. I only drive the marauder during the summer but thought that I would get it fixed since it pisses me off everytime it strands me. It will start to crank over and then before it has time to fire its like you unplugged the battery. If I let it sit for a 10 min. its like it resets itself and usually fires right up like nothing was ever wrong.

I'm sure I'm not the only one on here with this problem, is the dealership the only way to get this fixed? Or can I change out the defective ECM/PATS etc.? Thanks!

No she's fine, the thing that caused me all the problems was, a broken wire on the COP's, and the radio noise capacitor bracket was broken, (no ground).
