Hey guys, my name is Blake Stewart, and I have an 02 LX sport, but I post here from time to time, and I think I found my new favorite forum, cause I do screw around alot. Anyway, hey to the guy who posted about losing to the R/T, dont feel bad man **** like that happens to me all the time. I was racing this Nissan Sentra SE-R older generation the other day, and it handed me my ass, turned out it was running like mid 13s or something a buddy of mine knew him.
Anyway, as I said I have an 02 LX sport, and according to CVN (Crownvic.net) I have one of the fastest CONFIRMED stock crown vics in the land. My mods to date include bosch plugs, a hacked up airbox, and a K&N coupled with a rediculously aggressive 19 year old shouldnt be driving a car this nice break in. I currently have a fistfull of 15.2-15.3x timeslips in the low 90mph range, and I have 1 golden timeslip from a 38 degree south florida winter day which reads 15.08 :) when I get a scanner, Ill stuff you guys full of my time slips. I am getting ready to have headers, X-pipe, and a Dennis chip installed on my car which should put me in the 14.5x range, but havent done it yet.
Anyway to the point. My buddy Jason has a Grand PRIX GTP, that is stock, and runs a little behind me (yes i said behind :))
and he and I my friend AJ who has a cammed and headered nissan 240 SX, and my friend Anthony who has a new Lancer EVO (wont catch him unfortunately) were all cruising down Okeechobee Road in West Palm Beach Florida. We were heading East towards Downtown West Palm, and we were all doing 10 15 over the speed limit as usual. Anyway, I am in the middle lane the GTP is on the right side of me, and the nissan is to my left, and all of a sudden I hear the delightful tone of big cubes through flowmasters. Before I even have a chance to look around to find where it came from, the Nissan to my left slows drastically, and backcuts me to reveal a Beautiful marina Blue Dodge Dakota R/T. Now I love this truck, and I love this particular one even more. It is lowered the perfect amount, has a big hochkiss sticker that goes acruss the top of his windshield, he has added the classic dodge bumblebee stripe across the rear, and he has beautiful chrome tips sticking out from behind his rear tires at a 45 degree angle, and boy do they sound mean.
The light about an 8th of a mile up turns yellow on us, so we all hit the binders, and I dont even need to look at the guy in the dodge to know he wants a piece of me now. We all slowly roll up to the light, and stop, and all of a sudden I hear the truck next to me roar. Then I hear the hoover vacuum on my right side sing (the Eaton M90 sounds kinda funky), and I knew it was on. The waiting was the worst part, but it was ok, cause my favorite doors song just came on the radio. I turned the AC off, and the heater on, rolled my windows up, turned the radio down, and then the light for traffic perpendicular to us went yellow. I nailed the binders, and the gas, and brought my RPMs to whatever it is my torque converter lets me (no tach in the LX sports damn it). I hear my buddy in the grand prix stage, and the truck starts bellowing at me too. Break on through to the other side, Break on...........Break on...........(keyboard solo) the light turned green.
The next instant, all hell broke loose. My right rear tire spun, and I looked to my right......... and laughed about the front wheel hop that was plauging my buddy in his GTP, even though it was already starting to jump out ahead of me. Then I looked left and saw the Dakota lighting them both up as he jumped out in front of me too.
I hit 10 miles an hour, and just started to wait for my powerband to kick in. As I watched the GTP and the Dakota pull a carlength or 2 on me, I found myself thinking "man it must be nice to have low end torque." 30 approaches, and they have 2 and a half car lengths on me, but have stopped pulling. 35 comes quicker than I remember, and suddenly I am at the back bumper of the Dakota, and Jason still has 2 and a half car lengths on me. We hit 40, and I know that my second gear shift is coming, but its already too late for the dakota. At 48 the mighty Vic shifts into second. The Dodge suprises me a little cause it jumps back out in front of me about a half a car length, but by 55 its a fading memory, hes at my back bumper. Jason has long since stopped pulling, although I wasnt pulling yet either, but now were at 65, and im starting to reel him in. At 75, my nose is at his door, and at 80 he shifted.................and I didnt. The Vic effect kicked in, and my car pulled like a mother. The speedo hit 88, and I shoved my shifter into drive. There is always a delay, the question is will it bounce off the rev limiter and bog at 94? or will it give me that perfect 93 mile an hour shift that powers me into 3rd and chirps my serpentine belt.
A split second later, my belt assembly chirped, and all I could wonder was how much smaller do objects in mirror appear. Alot smaller? or a little smaller. at any rate, I hit 100 and shut it down (none of my buddies know i have a 110 mile an hour rev limiter :) I plan to keep it that way.).
We pulled up to the next light, and my window is already down, and the AC is back on. The guy in the Dakota is mumbling something unintelligible about nitrous, I just smile and reply that I'm stock, and not to feel bad because "The Vic effect............happened.... ........to him." There was profanity yelled from the Dakota, but I already had my Doors cranked back up to full blast, and the light turned green. He peeled hellaciously and took off, and I just left at my own liesurly pace. Street racing is bad, and I know a few of you guys will blast me for it, but im careful about it, and dont do it very often. Sometimes a vehicle comes up, where I just have to know. Oh well, youre only 20 once.
Take it easy guys, I look forward to your replies.:)
