Hey all,
finally had time to take pics of the Marauder. I had to put her stable mates in the last pic:cool:
She looks nice and shinny now. Dennis she will be heading your way this autumn!

How is it as far as prep work -- can you see any evidence of sanding scratches under the paint, especially if you look up close at an angle? Typically sand scratches, if any, show up around wheel well lips and edges of panels, where it's easier to over sand. Also any tiny pinholes in the clear (fisheyes)? Just curious since it's a black car, and I would make absolutely sure the repaint is as good as you expect it to be before signing off w/ the shop. There will always be some indications of a repaint since people are not robots working in clean rooms, but hopefully it's as convincing of a respray as the photos make it look like. Did they color sand and buff the clear or is it as-sprayed? Do you know what brand clear, and how many coats, they applied?
I see orange peel on the quarter. Or is it the quality of the pic?

It's peel but unless he paid to have the car color sanded totally flat and buffed show-quality, there will always be some normal peel to it. And I don't think I'd want one of these cars flat sanded and buffed because then it will stand out as looking too good to be factory paint.

I had the option to get the high end paint job but could not afford it:( You can see little imperfection if you look hard but I'm real happy with the way it turned out. If she was a show car I would have spent the extra $$$ but she's going to be driven hard all over Canada and the USA!
Couple of Specs of dust and some orange peel but they want here back in 2 weeks to wet sand and fix a couple of things.
I'm happy,

If you flat sand it and you ever sell the car, you won't be able to pull the "as far as I know it's factory paint" line. LOL. I'd say you can always do that later, but if they did not plan on aggressive color sanding there are probably only 2 coats of clear and you don't want to make that any thinner. And yeah, it's a suicide mission trying to keep black paint perfect. I am in the middle of going over my car with a rotary buffer starting w/ wool pads and cutting compound, to get rid of every single scratch it has incurred in 5 years (and there are millions on them if you look closely enough at black paint that has seen normal use) and I am going to be terrified to touch the car when I am done. You put fine swirls in the paint just by touching it to wash and dry the car...you don't realize it until you have a freshly buffed perfect surface!

Yes,
black is a biatch to keep clean and swirl free:mad:

I told myself I would never go back to a car after owning a pick-up, I will never own a black vehicle again after owning 2, I will never go back to having leather
I now own a CAR, BLACK/BLACK, LEATHER... These cars are very persuading!
Would love to get my car repainted! Looked great this morning though after I stayed up till 10 last night waxing it!

Yeah, my MM looked "good", but you can tell if a car looks a lot better after being waxed, than before, that it has a ton of swirls that the wax is temporarily filling in. On a perfectly buffed surface, the wax will provide some protection but it won't really change the way the paint looks, since all of the shine was already there.
But I am getting off topic here!

congrats on the paintjob, I also wouldn't have spent a load of cash on a paintjob on a daily driver especially in our harsh Canadian weather.

How expensive is it to buy a Canadian car and bring it to the states? Are there any "border crossing" fee?
If not, I'm interested.

No border fees but you likely will have to pay your state or country taxes if any.

well I thought I would bring back this old thread because it's easier than explaining myself in a new one.
I purchased this car 2 years ago and I noticed some overspray on the exterior C-pillar and front fenders. Now this overspray can only be seen in the most perfect lighting but I know its there and its bugging me. What can I use to get rid of this? I have 0 knowledge when it comes to buffing paint. Is this somthing I can do myself or should I send it to a body shop to get rid of?
thanks guys and sorry to dig up this old thread.

How much of the trim was removed for the paint? Any transition steps in the paint near trim? Looks good BTW!
