View Full Version : Torn between Black and DTR

MM ftw
07-18-2008, 01:33 PM
hey guys! im new around these forums and just wanted to say hi to everyone out there! im lookin into getting my MM soon (after patiently waiting for 3+ years) and im torn between black and DTR. i really like them both, black because.. well its black. and a slick black MM would be awesome, especially if i got a badgeless grille from zach.

but i also really like the DTR. its way more rare than black, which definitely appeals to me. Also, its a really nice shade of red that bodes awesomely with the MM.

opinions? what do all you black and DTR owners think? :help:

Red is a slow color... adds alot of wind resistance and decreases power... go with BLACK 300A

The obvious solution is get one of each.

Take the money you would spend for the red one and put it towards a supercharger etc for the BLACK ONE!

The obvious solution is get one of each.

Just heard this today from my uncle today: Long story short, his best friend buys a DTR MM last month. With his job, he is in and out of the downtown area a lot. When he first got it, he was thrilled telling my uncle "Man you would not believe the thumbs up and waves I get with this car". Well one day he is creeping along looking for parking and a guy runs up to the rear door and tries to get in. He jumps out and says to the guy "What the F*** is your problem"! The guy steps back and says "What do you think I need a ride". So my uncles friend says back, "What do I look like a F****** cab"! Then it dawned on him, all the thumbs up and waves where from people thinking he was a cab!!!

A very large amount of cabs in Chicago are DTR (Maybe not exactly DTR but extremely close) Crown Vics. He was devestated. I haven't seen my uncle laugh this hard in years.

To answer your question in my opinion: Either way you win. Yes black is the sharpest color of them all with the tinted headlamps and all, but the other colors are so rear that makes you stand out even more. The easy answer, worry about finding a clean one. Something not beat to the ground and well taken care of because believe me the beat up ones are definitely out there!!. Have someone with car knowledge or even better a MM.net member if you know one come with you and check the car out. Thats what I did. I looked at 3 different possible MM's and the first 2 where SHOT. The 3rd was a charm. It took me almost 14 months to find my second one. It just happen to be black again. Good luck and welcome. Great group of members and definitely the right place to be with these cars.

For those reasons you should NOT get a BLACK one LOL.:burnout:

DTR is a the blood red Marauder. Black is the dirty Marauder.

DTR is almost never mistaken for a police car, except where the police use them.

Black is nice but lacks the contrast that a nice dark red purple burgandy depending on the light DTR presents.

DTR shines even on a grey day. Black is just black.

Add black wheels and a tint and black looks like a shadow of the DTR. Ironically pales in comparison.

Dark Toreador Red, the colour of the bull fighter after his encounter with the bull. Black is the colour of the bull after the bull fight. (dead).

Think about it this way. Woman in black or Little black riding hood.

Red evokes the emotion of sex, black doesn't.

In the headlights others can't see black at night, nor well on the road, plus it is common as dirt.

DTR on the otherhand is triple the popularity of Blue the second best colour. Yet represents the final mastery of the Marauder.

Black is confused with Crown Victorias, you never confuse a DTR with a Crown Vic. MGM are Toreador Red, a much brighter colour, and yet more ordinary.

and if you still can't decide.

DTR's are black at night.

We all have to agree ,if we're honest with ourselves, that the quintessential Marauder is definately Black. The concept for the car was clearly the Bad Boy image. When I ordered my car, I was in a more practical mood and didn't want the work of keeping a beautiful black car ,that would surely be noticed by everybody, shiney and clean. I went for the "sleeper" and chose Silver Birch. It almost always looks clean (especially from a distance). It has an almost elegant look in certain light. But no one is very intimidated. You won't get the props in any other color except black.(IMO) That means missing out on a bit of the Marauder experience and sometimes I wish I had ordered Black. Coming back to my senses, I know I choose the right color for me. Black cars need to be owned by those who can commit to their upkeep.( And there are some very commited owners on this site) I'll just enjoy looking.;)

All I ever hear is "I thought they only made black ones"

Our State Troopers use Dark Blue on their CV's. Silver cars, there's a million of 'em.

I was up between a SB and DTR. I drove them both and could have gone either way. The DTR ran better, much better. So I chose DTR.

Let the car tell you what color to get. All of them have their own good qualities.

So there you have it, your choice...

And just so you know, Dark Pearl Blue were only produced in 2003 and Dark Toreador Red was only produced in 2004. Silver Birch and Black were produced in 2003 & 2004.

To be honest, the Black MM is what got me interested initially. I wanted one in that "Sinister Black". When the time came and all of the stars and planets aligned, I couldn't find a Black MM locally; but was told about a Blue MM over in Fairfax, VA. Out of curiosity, the wife and I went just to take a look. Sure enough, it was Dark Blue Pearl and beautiful and at a good price. Absolutely no regrets here. Even in a Blue MM, I have maintained my "bad boy image". :P

"You can get it in any color, as long as its black"

Had both, LOVED the black, but the paint was looked like crap the day it came from

Ford. Early 300a's had a thin coat of clear, that scratches really easy.

Have a DTR now, very sharp. It seems to change color in different light.

I have a black LX Sport and a DTR MM, I love black, but it is hard to keep nice all the time. The DTR is just a different color, since it's not a DD, it is spotless most all the time. I was looking for a SB when I found a perfect and well kept DTR. Let the car make the decision for you as to it's color.
