View Full Version : Stupid one tire fire!

I don't know why, but lately my car has only been doing burnouts with one tire. My rear end is built with an Auburn Posi, 4:10 gears and my good driving skills. ;) When I take off too the car will only light up one skid mark. This car was giving me 2 trails as of one month ago.

Did I break something? The car isn't making any noise when I drive it and seems to be fine, but this one tire fire is really ticking me off. What is the deal? Should I return the posi? Is it toast? I'm really confused and ticked. :mad2:

Any suggestions?

I destroyed 3 Auburns with my Capri years ago.
At that time Summit stopped selling them because so many were being returned to them by customers.:(

The one wheel peel is what you get when the posi has gone south

I have heard of other auburns going south,,,

try a detroit locker

I will call up Auburn tomorrow and see what to do. I asked around today and I was told it could be rebuilt for maybe $125 or I might be able to send it back.

I don't understand one thing: It says one year warranty and four year exchange, what is the difference?

In my opinion you should cut your loses and scrap the auburn.
Been there done that, wasted time thinking the next one would hold up but it never did.
I run a Track Lock by Powertrax,
It's a little noisey like a Detoit Locker but a bit cheaper.
I have gone 9.75 at 137mph with one and it's been in my car for some years now.
Just my 4.6 cts.

Auburns were the weaker, unwanted factory posi's for a lot of V8 cars. They put metal shavings in the oil as they wear, and aren't rebuildable without getting creative with machine work. I get a kick out of people "upgrading" the factory clutch type limited slip to the cone of death Auburn rears? It's new posi time.
