View Full Version : Gas economy for a NOVI S/C'd MM
Hi Ho;
Questions have been asked as to what one may expect in mileage on an S/C'd MM.
I can report on my application, a NOVI non-intercooled version by DR with larger injectors, 4:10's and 3500 stall speed converter.
I drove 330 miles, all but ten on the Interstate, in 100 degree temps, with the airconditioner on. The car was on cruise control, no passing gear used and speed was set to 70 MPH.
One passenger, spare tire and minimum luggage.
The MPG was a solid 22. I'm happy.

S/C or not.... there isn't any change on cruising MPG.
It's that whole foot to the floor syndrome the first few tanks... and people get all scared and wonder why they got less than 200miles to a tank.

I got between 20-24 down the Cape last week, and that was with my g/f and about 80lbs of luggage, 95* with the A/C on, and a couple runs up to about 120.

Good to hear Pat!
Best I got was 22.3 MPG with 2 passengers and a trunk-load of gear.
A lot of WOT's and high speeds from Cleveland to Louisville.
You did good my friend!
Mike.

You seriously need to look at your driving habits.

Can't, too busy watching the road. :eek:Besides this is with a/c on constant in mid to upper nineties, very high humidity, and all in town. All in all I think that isn't too bad for first month of a new toy. No racing really just a little heavy footed.
22 mpg, unreal.
I have NEVER come close to that

20 1/2mpg driving interstate at 55 80% and 20% very easy city (40-45) when she was almost new and stock with no air on. That was a test when i bought it with 13,000 miles and there is no way that i could have got better results without pushing.

This is what i get with out a S/C and I don't mind. I bought the car to drive, not to get ricer fuel milage

I don't get that mpg NA and nearly stock. But I won't drive 65 in the slow lane and never pass either. If I did I would certainly get better mpg. I just calculated 19.5 mpg yesterday on a tank that was 90% highway. That is the exact same that I get every time, barely under 20 mpg. I think I got 21, once, on a trip where I kept the high speed fly bys to a minimum.

Our fuel tank hold 19 gallons, burning 17 gallons of it should then get at least 374 miles to a tank at 22MPG?
I can barely get 300 miles to a tank on highways, city driving - forget about it!
How many miles are you guys getting to a tank?

Yeah but how many people push the 'add fuel' light?
I go 270 and refuel.

Miles to the tankful is an irrelevant discussion.

When you say no passing gear, you mean it never geared down to 3rd or it was always in 3rd never 4th?
Diabolical1 CC:
Always in 4th while on I-20. This was a Sunday, Light traffic.

Oh that figures. Even if traffic is light I can't keep my foot out of it occasionally (or not that occasionally). If I know I am going to not need the extra power I just drive a Saturn.

I get about 290 miles on a tank driving like normal... 70% city, 30% hwy.
This weekend was my drill weekend and I had to go back and forth to the coast twice (200 miles total) With 80% hwy and 20% city I have over 350 miles on this tank.

Why? Granted there might be a slight difference from tank full to the light going on... but if you use your trip ODO and a calculator you can average out your MPG pretty easily.
