Ok, I haven't raced on the track in a year or two and this was the first time out with the Marauder...can you guys decipher the slips...I was racing against my father's 2004 Chrysler Crossfire, and every time he would get ahead of me out of the hole and I would sit just behind his rear bumper.... Here are three of my avarage time slips, (we made 21 runs that day). We are at 1200ft Sea Level.

This was the first run and the best run of the day...

Anyways we had a blast.... for $20 you get to run as much as you want, racing begins at 5pm and goes to 8:30-9pm. We made 21 runs down the strip and still took time to eat lunch and take two breaks.....Got to love B.I.R. http://www.brainerdraceway.com/wed/home_wed.html So whats the verdict...I thought I'd do better, but being its completely stock should it be? I've read everything from 14.7's to 15.8's for best times on stock cars...Guess the weather played a factor too.....:dunno:

Looks like you guys had fun to me! Were you spinning your tires a lot?

Really, not much to say with a stock setup. The track prep and tires play an important role, but so does the driver. Everyone started out at that level. Return to the track in September or October if you are looking for better E/T's

Well I couldn't tell...I thought I was hearing some tire spin but the old man was spinning so thought it was him...it didn't feel like it. My buddy recorded one of the last few runs run with his phone and on it you can see them spin, but it was one of the last runs when I started leaving at 2100rpm, instead of 1800rpm that I had been doing all day long... I did notice I slowed down a bit when I tried launching at 2000rpm...I guess tire spin would have explained it.....Funny I didn't notice it, although I've never run down the track with street tires on before...

Did you also lower your tire pressure? As you make more runs the tire psi would have raised up also. Did you also go thru the water box or around it and spin the tires a little bit to clean them off?

Playing with tire pressure can help that. I am kind of jealous of you. My dad has been gone a long time. He liked to drag race but we always had to take turns. It would have been fun to line up with him. He was good on ther lights and could shift a 4 speed like it wa butter. Enjoy these times with him and just get a lille bit sneaky with your car. the old guys are not easy to beat!

Nope didn't run threw the water box, went around...will get someone to verify the tire spin next time and will play with the tire pressure if need be. Didn't know you messed with pressure on street radials but again, I've never run anything but slicks on my other cars....

I guess it would help to know your mods. As for your 60' times it appears you were, listening to your tires scream. It's a beautiful sound though. So either your tires weren't warmed up enough or you preloaded too much.

yea I hear you there, my father has been diagnosed with a lung disease, years of working with asbestos...They have given him 1.5years to live, so I'm doing my best to spending good times together....We'll be going back to the track at the end of August as that's the next Wed Night Drag... Looking at buying a tuner now that I have $$ saved up. Also planning on the 4.10's but for right now I want him and I to stay competitive so its fun for both... but out of the 21 runs he won 16 times.... the others were from his mistakes.....He just gets that edge out of the hole and I can't seem to catch him in time....

I thought I saw where you are coming to the Car Craft show this week. If so some of us will give you some ideas. If you are going PM me your phone number so we can find each other. Hack Goby and I are coming over from Michigan on Thursday!

Oh my god. I ran a 1997 Buick LeSabre (205 horsepower 3.8 V6) down the 1/4 and it ran a 15.89, WITH traction control on. That is not good for this car!!

In pretty much stock form the times are not bad Vic. You gotta start some where. When he gets a tune it will improve a lot as it comes alive!

Seems like you should've won the first timeslip you posted, you spotted him 6 hundreths and went 4 tenths faster, that equals a win! Other than that, listen to what everyone has already said about tire pressures and leaving off-idle to let the convertor move the weight. Then mod the piss out of it!!!

Yep the first one I won outright, but he had T/C on, otherwise the rest were him red lighting and such.... I'll play with it more and see whats the highest RPM I can leave with out tire spin after adjusting pressure.....

Chris;

I assume the track prep is good at BIR. I do not think a stock Marauder would be spinning the tires to much. I would think a quick burn out would warm them up a bit and help out if you were spinning. When is the next date at BIR? I might be able to fit it in :)

jeremy August 27th is the next run, we like to get there sometime around 4:30 so we can get through tech and be the first ones in line.... And on the tire spin, I guess I had that same mentality that being stock I didn't have allot of worry about tire spin, that's why I didn't pay extra attention to it when racing.....

LOOKS TOTALLY NORMAL TO ME.
Nice reaction time on that second slip!.

Something is probably wrong with your car, 15.7 is slow for a stock marauder, Get a solid dyno tune, gears , intake and torque converter for a solid high thirteen car.

Those times seem rather normal for the alt and considering the car is stock.

Those mods are good for a high 13 second car in the right air, Otherwise you'll be running 14.0's consistant in the heat. (ask me how I know :D)

I see you have a 300A, so you have a full size spare and maybe a trunk organizer? If so lose the weight before your next challenge.

I think everyone is missing the point.....the important thing is you had fun with your dad.I suspect in a few years when you look back you will not remember what you ran,but maybe who with....imo

I'd have to agree with you also, but the title of this thread refers to: decipher my 1/4 mile TS.
In my case, if he was still with us, would be....How to get my MM keys outta dad's hands.

Somehow the trunk organizer was gone before the vehicle got to my hands....and the spare was removed....
