Was cruising down the road today when my beloved ,9k mile, Silver Birch ,recently aquired Marauder just stop running. Came to a stop put it in park turned the key--NOTHING!! lights worked. a/c still blew, but nothing else!! I work at a Ford-Toyota dealer and luckily a towing company was about a mile away and came and took it to the dealer for me. Turns out there was a pinched wiring harness on the drivers side behind the valve cover causing the PCM to be unresponsive. Rerouted and everything seems ok now! has anyone else had a similar experience??

I though that issue was only for 03s?

The '03's had a 'chafing' issue. A 'pinched' harness sounds to be different

My car went to the dealer Sat., he called to give me an estimate for repair of the same wiring harness being pinched, and a burned resistor. The estimate was $331, plus tow, and taxes, so $500 will almost do it.

Anyone with a pic of the area causing the pinch?

It was the wiring harness behind the driver's side valve cover just under the drivers side wiper arm coming from the fire wall to the PCM. Caused the fuse to blow. Re-routed the wires and replaced the fuse. Seems ok now

The harness rubs the wiper cowl bracket and rubs through, grounding a wire out.

It all depends who installed the wiring harness at the factory.

I rerouted mine then placed a rubber cap over the exposed threads of the bolt that goes thru the bracket.

Yeah, that portion is tight and the steel bracket is sharp. I put a piece of rubber in between the bracket and harness and have been ok. I check it every time I change the oil.

Silly design.

I got free towing because I know the tow driver, and I work at the dealer so I got an oil change, new battery, and they fixed the issue for $315 total!

Can you post a pic of the effected area? It would be a help to us.

My computer at home sucks and I can never seem to get pics posted. I can't do it from work because they won't allow it, I could take with my cell and send them to your email. PM me with your email address and I will send them to you and you can post for me if you like.
