I was sitting around the backyard with a few friends last night. At about 11:30pm I decided that we needed to make a Taco Bell run for some butt-rippin' grub. Two of the guys get in my MM and we start headed down Rt. 9 for the 6 mile trip to the Bell.

We were kinda in a hurry, so I was lead-footin' it a bit. One last set of tailights in front of me to pass and it'd be open road.... so I press the gas a bit more. As I accelerated, the tailights didn't get any closer. So I stepped into a bit more... still nothing. OK, now I'm upset, so the 2nd gear downshift came and the MM started to boogy. I start gaining on this car and pass it, then I let off. Then he lays into it and passes me... and lets off.

My passengers were egging me on and taunting me into a battle... but I thought, "this is a Porsche... not an old 944, but a new Boxster S... I'll get killed."

Well, luck would have it that we hit the last light before Taco Bell. His top was down and he was checking out my car. I rolled the tinted windows down JUST far enough for him to see my grin. To be friendly I said, "Nice car man. Were you 'on it' back there?" He said, "Yea, I can't believe you could hang with this! What do you have in there?" I reply, "Twin cam 4.6... nothin special." Then, to my suprise, he starts yappin about having a supercharger or some crap:bs: (doubtful). But now I'm scared:help:.

The whole time he was running his mouth I was keeping an eye on the other lights. Yellow... then Red... oh yea... I torqued up and dropped to 1st, TC off. GREEN... I punch it and ---OH MY GOD --- get a chirp form the tires:burnout:. He pulls ahead slightlyand hits second with a mean tire bark. I was still pulling in first and gained on him... then came my quick chirping shift. Neck and neck... he hits third... I pull on him again. I'm AHEAD!!!!:banana2: Then we back off. At the next light he was raving about my exhaust note and tire chirps:bows:. He couldn't believe I was right with him the whole time. I was REALLY excited. Lastly, we exchanged waves and went to Taco Bell.

How can that be? All the magazines say it's impossible. the Marauder gets beat by Accords

All those magazines are BS. For gods sake... they rated a wrx to do 0-60 in 5.4... the best i could get out of one was 6.4. It all comes down to the driver.. and constable.. great job man.. great win.

this isn't so far fetched the boxster S is rated at 14.3 in the 1/4 vs a stock Marauder at 15.5 , you can make up that difference in reaction time or one bad shift sequence.

anything over a full second in the quarter is a lot......just think of how much asphalt a vehicle covers in one second while traveling at a typical trap speed of about 95MPH.......

Well, since this did happen in MY town.... I must confess. He didn't know what he was getting into. The intersection we caught the light at is tricky. I know this from much experience. As we approached I stuck to the slow lane as best as possible. He thought he was hot stuff, so he naturally was in the fast lane (bad idea). The slow lane (from the intersection to the next light) is perfectly smooth. The fast lane, however, recently underwent some blacktop work due to the beat-up concrete divider. It's really uneven, but you can't notice it uuntil you're driving on it. It pulls you toward the divider. Then, when you correct steering, it starts pulling you toward the slow lane. I had this startegy in mind way before even dedicating myself to a race with this guy. As my high school biology teacher used to tell me, "That's using your kidneys!... I mean brains!"

So were the taco's good?

Great story. Always let 'em think they got the 'faster'wheels.

Working the light to your favor? Priceless!

Ps; Hope your buddys picked the tab.

The baja-chicken Gorditas tasted exceptionally delicious that night, thank you very much. And yes... they did pick up the tab!
