First off, why cant i get this F*(King JLT heat shield to fit right? What is the trick :mad2:I had to take it off because it broke the mounting tab on the compressor intake, and it was rubbing like crazy and shredding plastic off.

Secondly, where can i order the new little white box? I assume ford, and if so what is the part # ?

That little white box is about $320. What did you do to break it?

what the hell, for real? Jesus ill just go to the junkyard then.

The Heatshield bumped it and cracked the thing off. It rubbed everything, i took it off now.

BTW i put your car's ad up on another forum for someone who is looking to buy a good priced marauder, ill let you know if he's interested.

That white box I believe is a breather for the air compressor.

I ran the heat shield on mine without an issue.

How about pics from further away showing exactly how you installed it?

Mike.

Best one i have, i thought i had some. The open part is on top, the closed part is on the bottom. I never could get it to fit right, so today i just got PO'd and took it off.

It is actually a "Muffler" for the compressor intake!!

It does not wear out......I used a wire tie to secure mine after the pin tab broke off......works fine mounted like this but I guess you can extend the hose and hide it under something if you wish??

The K&N CAI kit comes with relocation hardware. Everything fit very nicely.

I had the same CAI before I went to the K&N. Your heat shield is installed upside down. The heat shield should be on top of your filter in order to block hot air from your engine flowing into the filter. The filter should be open on the bottom so cooler air from beneath the filter will flow into the engine.

I had to cut a little material away on mine to clear the brake lines that come out of the brake control block. Fits good, I just don't use it. Maybe I'll try again....

Yeah your heat shield is on wrong lol. It's suppose to be open on the driver side, blocks the heat coming off the engine. Your blocking the "cold air" and allowing the hot air to hit it lol.

I just took it off, it wont fit anyways. Useless....

I was thinking that i would have to cut pieces off for it to fit. Oh well i might as well just leave it off.

And Yes i know it was installed wrong, it wasnt blocking cold air, it was just covering up the compressor basically. Ill just leave it off.

But you are going to suck hot air with it off, defeating the purpose of a cold air intake.......

The first JLT kits had no heat shield. For some reason i doubt that it really affects IAT's that much, when your driving down the road the hot air is being blown out from the cold air coming in. Might have a few degree difference, but ive noticed no difference with it being on or off.

Heat shields are useless.
It takes approximately 10 seconds for the intake air to be within 1-2 degrees of ambient air after the car has been idling with the engine running.
Ive tested it!

I bought mine used without a heat shield and mine is just fine.

Well yeah the heat shield would be useless with the MM cause it's still located in the engine bay. It would need to be a TRUE COLD AIR INTAKE, filter below the bumper outside of the engine bay to be useful. To make up the difference of not having one just don't eat a big meal before driving lol.

it looks better w/o it anyways

I always thought that the shield was to block heat as well as fan wash (turbulences).

If you really wanted to block the heat put the CAI at the back of your car or in a scoop.

Does the stock plastic shield fit with the better filtre?

back of the car? and proceed to move the air in the motor how?

K&N has a much better heat shield design.

http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z302/blkmarauder/DSCN2217.jpg

blocks all of the heat around the filter and actually somewhat seals against the hood liner too.

The heatshield is a better design i agree, but the JLT looks better (JMHO) :)

JLT needs to make one more like that.

For anyone who has a K&N, did it make the intake noise noticeably louder? I would be interested in the K&N, which looks like it is scienced out nicely, but if the intake noise drones and gets a lot louder, I don't want to hear it on this particular car.

Its definately louder but I don't think its obnoxious, you only hear it at half throttle and WOT, I don't have any drone.
