I have enclosed some good information on our MM head ticking issues from the "Yo, Ken" letters section from the September, 2008 MM&FF, page 39. Keep in mind that it is possible that bare 32 valve 4.6 heads that were used for "Cobra" engines could have been in the parts bins and also used for MMs.
"Ford's Technical Service Bulletins say that some Cobras built before 11/02/02 may exhibit an unusual engine tick noise. This is due to premature valveguide wear on the left cylinder head. Find out when your Cobra was built to see if you could have this potential problem. The replacement head part number is 3R2Z-6049-GA. It will cure this issue. Upgrading your supercharger will not adversely affect the head-ticking problem. If your Cobra hasn't developed this problem by this time, changes are it never will."
I hope this was helpful to some MM owners will this problem.
