View Full Version : Unread threads are always the same?

I don't know why, but even if I hit the button to mark all threads read, when I come back the next day they are all marked as new threads again.
Any ideas? I've tried clearing cookies/cache but unless I do that after each visit, then it doesn't work (I have it delete the cache after each session though)...
Thanks :)

The read and unread are based in part on the cookies and cache - if you are deleting them after every session you have answered your own question

If I don't delete them, they are always the same. I don't know any other board that I have to delete them every time I visit...

After my last post I checked the settings and the read and unread marks are saved in the database, which means that my last post was a little misleading.

Since the status is stored in the database your cache status shouldnt have much effect on the read unread ( but will effect the color of the links - browser lists previously visited links in different color based on cache)

If there was something wrong with the site, settings or database it would be effecting MANY people - is anyone else experiencing the same issue ?

Is there anything I should/could check in my browser settings? I've not changed anything, but that doesn't mean that they are right for this site.
Thanks.

Lets try to get exactly what the problem is - so we both are talking about the same thing

I dont come here that often and I read very few threads - BUT I was here an hour ago or so to read this thread and now I see in the upper right hand corner that there are 7 unread posts -so in the last hour or so there have been 7 new psosts - THATS the data that is stored in the database. The color of the links is NOT reliable and is based on the cache on your local pc

I bet there is some setting or utility on your pc that is at fault but to determine what it is will require knowing the exact nature of the problem

I come here every few days or so. When I look at the threads with new posts (they have this http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/images/buttons/firstnew.gif in front of them,) they are always the same unless I manually 'Mark Forums Read' at the bottom of the main forum. I never look up at the right corner, but I do see what you are talking about, I'll keep an eye on that too now.
I've tried to delete the cookies and cache, but that only works the first time and then I have to do it again each time.
It's got to be something here I guess, as no one else has mentioned it that I've seen.

Ive never looked at it in that detail but the status of that image would be dependant on your local cache - try this - use the link at the top to see the new threads THEN use that image/linkto get to the first unread post in that thread - see if that works for you

I never use the 'Unread Posts' up top because I like to browse through specific categories (like the ones in Shop Talk) and it doesn't list them in this way, just the time of the post. I'll live using the 'Mark Threads Read' button ;) I was just hoping there might have been an easy fix that I had overlooked.

You can delete this thread if you want. It does sound like its something on this end, as no one else seems to have run into it.
Sorry for taking up your time trying to figure it out, and thank you for the help and information. :)
