What is with the stains on the upper air intake lid? I have stains ( Im assuming from oil) coming from the hose that is connected to the PCV valve I believe it is. I never understood the setup on our cars with that so please correct me if Im wrong. I'm use to the "pull the hose, pull the valve, shake it and if you here noise its still good.";) Thanks.

If the PCV valve DOESN'T rattle then it's bad, but just because it DOES rattle doesn't automatically make it good. The spring inside is calibrated and can get weak so it's a good idea to just replace it every 50,000 miles.

Like RF said, PVC may be the problem, The staining is normal, If it is excessive the PVC will probably be the culprit.
I've not changed mine yet .

I had a gold color under my intake lid at only 25K miles. Its normal. I just changed my PCV valve recently and I havent noticed any difference but piece of mind.
