Hi Guys and Gals:

Yesterday on the way into the office my alternator died! Just at the summit of the Santa Cruz Mountains the Battery Light illuminated and the volt meter was reading about 6 volts.

So I pulled over and checked the fan belt but all was OK…scratched my head and contemplated whether to turn back or press-on.

Decided to nurse the MM into San Jose to a garage near the office that I use for the TC.

They checked the Alternator, no voltage output! Figures…did it die because I washed the engine compartment Sunday after installing the water pump and stat?

I lucked out…LM dealer stocks rebuilt and new exact MM replacement Alternators. So $302.00 later picked up the MM at 5:00 PM and all was normal on the return leg home. No problems this morning so, so far so good.

I don't know if the engine wash had anything to do with it. When I bought mine back in 12/2005 mine had a low output of around 11v just at idle and was replaced by the dealer and it sits around 13.2-13.4v now.

I had a grounding issue that affected my MM.

Where was your ground problem located?

After installing the UDP voltmeter reads 12v at idle, but since most driving is over hill and dale the battery should maintain a full charge.

Hopefully Lido's 4:10 gear ration tune kicks up the idle a bit!
