Installed my PHP intake spacer the other day and noticed that I seemed to have gained about 1.5 mph but lost some E.T.
Has anyone else found this to be the case in there installation of the intake spacer.

The debate on the effectiveness of spacers for NA MMs has raged for over 4 years. I personally question their overall effectiveness and real power increases. Many comments have been written about their affect on driveability. Bottom line is if they add power it is not very much.

I tend to agree with Glenn, the stock intake on a Marauder 32v motor is very effiicient, on an NA setup I too question just how much "power" a spacer gives. From what I've seen, any gains in HP tests or 1/4mile tests have been in the realm of statistical error so it's really hard to say whether or not they're worth it.

For instance your 1.5mph increase in E.T. - there are many other variables that can effect this, and unless a real consistent bracket racer in my eyes there are other things aside from a spacer that could be changing this...

If you gained 1.5mph and lost some E.T. you could of easily just spun your tires a tad bit which would of caused that.

I look at it this way, it's not a costly mod, takes 15-20 mins to do if the EGR doesn't give you any issues and if you plan on doing headers down the road it will help increase their effectiveness from what I have read on here. Any little bit helps!

The PHP intake spacer is not about adding large amounts of power at WOT, or reducing ETs significantly. What it does is broaden/flatten the power curve in the mid-range, giving a feeling of better throttle response in everyday driving. And it does that quite well for what it costs...coupled with U/D pulleys, it makes a very nice package.

That is what I did together^^ pullies and spacer .
I recall a small gain .
Not Too much stuff available to get our cars to B faster.

Where did you test this et?

I noticed a small gain with the spacer. Maybe a half a tenth to a tenth. When I first did it, I thought I lost above .2 in the 1/8! Turns out the track I went to was a little long. My mph was up about 5. Don't judge any gains/losses by just one trip as there's so many variables. Most of what I noticed was getting rid of (or at least lessening) that annoying "flat spot" in our N/A cars.

I have a dyno jet here and plan on doing lots of before/after tests with new gofast parts on the new Merc

I noticed a change in TR and negligable SOTP increase. DR posted dyno results, do a search for the specifics, it was like 8 hp and 10 ft/lbs and I dont think he would steer us wrong. With proper tuning any mod will yeild results.

I think it's real value is adding an insulator between the upper and lower intake. This would keep the upper intake cooler from less heat transfer. That means only the lower intake is heating the air since the air has less contact time with hotter metal. It's my opinion that a cooler charge is the benefit of the spacer and you'll really only notice gains when comparing from day to day not from run to run. I think the slightly cooler charge is also what helps round out that 'flat spot' Paul talks about.

Hood clearance

Not a problem for me with the cowl hood lol. My JLT intake doesn't hit the hood like it did on my stock one thankfully.

I know, just kidding.

Kinda like the old Carb spacers and hi rise intakes.

I think the spacers should be a bit thicker, but I'm no engineer or fabricator, just your average Joe....
