Hopefully this could be a mini MVXI lol.
Charlie you must have something good cooked up for this to be a 2-3 day event when it all started out as a day trip.
I wonder how far Mason Dixon is from Gettysburg, might be able to hit up their test and tune whenever it is, I'll have to check.
Edit:

FRS el-cheapos worked just fine for MVV. Not looking to good that I can attend. :mad2: I'll wait a few more weeks, but a few issues have sprung up recently over time off. I've never asked for either my birthday or a weekend off during the "busy season" in 32+ years. They deny it and I'll never do a f&^k%$g favor for them again in my remaining two years OTJ.

I have a set of FRS/GMRS Motorola "Talkabout" T6500's that I picked up 3 years ago. They work fine. I suspect that the model # series is up to T8500 or T9500 by now. Cost is in the $50-$60 range at Best Buy, Target, etc.
FRS = Family Radio Service
GMRS = Ground Mobile Radio Service
The dual capable system works best since the FRS alone is limited to about 7 channels and 0.5 watt -- so range is typically very limited.

Just made our reservations. It's a long drive from God's country so we are driving up on Friday and leaving Sunday morning. We'll probably skip the several hours of leave peaking and chill at the hotel after lunch.
Leaving for LA the following day.

Hi gang! :)
Okay, Charlie bugged me about this, and I admit I was dragging my feet to see how my schedule was working out. I'll RSVP at least for Saturday, 'cause I can swing that for certain. My job with the Bureau expanded a bit. I'm now part of the outreach team and in the outreach program, proselytizing my agency to the law enforcement community. I've been waiting to see if there was a road trip for us the week before. If that week opens up, then I'll try to come up there for the duration, or at least Saturday evening.
I am quite looking forward to the G'burg tour, because I've got something special there that I bet nobody else can say. My great-great-grandfather fought in the Civil War at Gettysburg, and is inscribed on the Pennsylvania State memorial. I need to take a photo of that portion of the plaque anyway, but I'd be proud to show it to you all.

That's some interesting stuff!
There were a few Long's there too, but don't know if they were my ancestors or not.
Many families were involved in that war.

I've forgotten. In Pennsylvania, is it still the "Civil War," or is it the "War Between the States?" AKA "The War of Northern Aggression."
In Virginia it's the latter two, but where I grew up in California, it was the first. I don't know where the dividing line is. Maryland?

The Mason-Dixon Line (border between Maryland and Pennsylvania). I grew up in Baltimore, MD and we were taught that it was "The Civil War" or "The War Between the States". Maryland allegiance was pretty much divided. The first time I heard the term "War of Northern Aggression" was from a guy from Texas. :D

Pets are welcome at Gettysburg National Military Park though there are some general rules that pet owners should follow during their visit. Pets are not allowed in park buildings or in the Soldiers' National Cemetery at any time. Only seeing-eye dogs may enter the park Visitor Center and Cyclorama Center with their owners. Pets must be restrained on a leash at all times while in the park and owners are requested to be considerate by cleaning up after their pets. If pets are to be left in personal vehicles, owners should be aware that temperatures in an enclosed vehicle can rapidly reach over 100 degrees on a warm day. The vehicle should have proper ventilation with adequate water.

Gettysburg Hampton Inn policy says "Pets: No Pets Allowed ". Not sure of the battlefield rules.
Ms. Denmark
09-27-2008, 06:36 AM
We stayed at a Holiday Inn or Travel lodge in Gettysburg that did allow pets. I think if you keep the dog in your car while driving through the battlefield it's OK. I'll do some checking on both issues and PM Rich if I learn anything useful. Never mind! Looks like I missed the part where you said you had the answer, Rich. Must have been distracted by my eggs Sardou on toasted bialy with freshly brewed mocha java and a dish of mixed berries and creme fraiche! LOL

OK, time to get serious about a head count. It looks like a potential of nearly 50 folks for lunch & 27 cars for the leaf peeping cruise to Camp David, after. Friday evening won't be a problem, as I have two great offers to propose, but Saturday lunch needs an accurate head count.
PS, no matter what he says, I'm assuming BDJ will not be there, unless he says he definitely will not be there. In which case, he will, but late. :D
OK, so, who's gonna be there, and how many in your party. I'll keep the tally here, with edits.
Mike & Barb Friday night = 2, Saturday Lunch = 1
Mark & Pam Saturday Lunch = 2
Mr & Mrs Central Raven Saturday Lunch = 2
Charlie & Bernie Saturday Lunch = 2
Charlie & Bernie Saturday Supper = 2
GordonB & Joan for Supper Fri. eve = 2
GordonB & Joan for Lunch on Sat. = 2
GordonB & Joan for Supper Sat. eve = 2
Just a note: There have been many changes at Boyd's that may mean we can't guarantee they will be open. Also 50 folks might be a stretch for ACB, but you'll love plan "B". Friday night will most likely be at KcLingers.

I might be if the Boyd's Bear thing falls through.
Here a link to the Adams' County Winery >>>> http://www.adamscountywinery.com/
Its not far from Gettysburg enroute to Fairfield, PA. Hours: 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Sunday.
I noticed this info on their site. "Host Your Event at the Winery. We offer beautiful outdoor picnic grounds for your group function -- reunion, wedding, reception, or just a picnic. Please contact us for more information and to make a reservation."

I have updated the Sketch Map of Gettysburg with the locations of some of our venues for next weekend for a little perspective of where we are and will be in relation to the events of 1-3 July 1863. Mike is keeping the Saturday dinner location a "secret" for the time being, so there is no star shown for that yet.

Yep, Target, Best Buy, K-Mart, Circuit City ... any of them. Got my Motorola "TalkAbout" T6150s at Target several years ago. They usually come in a set of 2 radios with a charger station.

The FRS/GMRS allow more power. Range is billed at 10 miles max but is LOS limited. Under 5 is a better operational figure. FRS alone is under 2 miles. Get the dual-capable FRS/GMRS set.

Finally got the contract for Saturday Supper. It's at Cozy Restraint in Thurmont, MD, which just happens to be precisely at the end of our Camp David/Cunningham Falls Leaf Peeping tour. Here's their website. http://www.cozyvillage.com/
There will be time allowed before the ~5PM seating to visit the shoppes, and visit, depending upon how long it takes us to explain what we're doing with all these sinister looking rides to the Secret Service. They will be offering us a buffet or menu order, with individual checks. Your bar bill will be on your check, and you can order from your server or pay as you go. Save room for the dessert table. :D
You'll notice it's just at US 15, and less than 10 miles from Boyd's Bears, just outside Emmitsburg, MD, where, by the way, is the location of the Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton National Shrine, and the Grotto of the Lourdes, along with the National Fire Academy. Sorry it took so long to get this one together, but it took some doing, and hopefully you'll enjoy your afternoon.

Suggest that 6:30 PM dinner would be a much better time. Some may want to get unpacked and unwind after a long drive before heading out to dinner. That will also provide a buffer for RayJay. I'll fix the itinerary in Post #1 to reflect 6:30 PM (instead of the original 7:00 PM dinnertime).

They do that when there are "special" um, guests at um, certain locations on the mountain. Just leave the details to your friendly guide and we'll have a good time, and be safe. A word of caution, there are places, clearly marked, where you do NOT want to be taking pictures. There's plenty to see and do, just don't do anything foolish, because you will end up being detained. These are very serious folks we're going up on that mountain to visit. Please don't worry, as we visit all the time, and know our way around. And rest assured, THEY know who WE are, by now.:D

Just got home from Gettysburg. What a great weekend! It was a GREAT group of Marauder lovers. In fact we'd like them just as much even if they didn't drive Marauders!! Mr and Mrs.Mike Poore opened their home to us and escorted us through the very scenic (and secret) backroads nearby and Mike arranged meal reservations for the weekend. Thanks so much! We enjoyed seeing Mr.& Mrs. 04marauder, Mr.& Mrs. Bluerauder, Mr.& Mrs. Fordfrk, along with Blackened300A and lovely GF, and Mr.& Mrs. SilverSurfer. It was so nice to meet Mr.& Mrs. GordonB, Mr.& Mrs. Krytin, Mr.&Mrs. MyTMerc, Mr.& Mrs. 2nd MD Rebel and daughter, and from way Upstate NY Mr.& Mrs. Rayjay. We loved having Big Dog Jim drop in for lunch and traffic control! Merc was awesome with his camera (and his car).It was great to see the two of you. And what a nice surprise to find Doom and his lovely GF had arrived early this morning to join us! A big thank you to Haggis and LadyHawke for hosting the wine tasting trip. It was a lot of fun! $40.00 and a Mule. I know that will buy about half a tank of gas .... but what are you gonna do with a Mule? Thought you were more interested in Horsepower. ;)
:o That's 40 acres .... in Northern Virginia you could build almost 500 houses on that. Not a bad piece of property in the right location.

With the state of the current economic situation I will settle for the Mule. In its common modern meaning, a mule is the offspring of a male donkey and a female horse, which is classified as a kind of F1 hybrid. I get the best of both worlds, horsepower & torque. Were do I sign up?

I will take 10 foreclosed homes instead of 10 acres. That action will save Uncles Sam a few bucks on the 700 billion dollar bailout.

I as always had a great time, Everyone is always very nice. It sucks I have to trek over 200 miles to find a group that's into Marauder's!
I hit so much traffic on the way home near the George Washington bridge that my trip home was almost 6 hours! Left the bear place at 3pm and was home in my front door by 8:30!:mad2: Thats also with speeds in excess of 80MPH and still couldnt catch a break.
I plan to be posting up the 90 pictures I took very soon. Yeah mostly of cows!

Only 6! LOL Sorry your trip home was such a pain. Really glad you guys came out for the weekend. Who else could have gotten us from the hotel to KClingers in the pitch dark! (and back again). Enjoyed Susan's company and we'll see you next time.:burnout: Looking forward to the cow pics!! ;)

6 bears must be the magic number. That's how much my last trip there cost me. I got off easy this time with only 6 bottles of wine. ;)
Make sure that you post the pic of that cow that stacked us all up on the country road. His nickname could be "Bent Tips" Not to worry --- the wife gave me the LOOKOUT signal from the co-pilots seat. You'd think that after 33 years, she would trust me. :P

I guess you saw the troop of bears that have followed Barb home over the years. I think it's close to 200, but they're hard to count, because Calvin keeps dragging 'em off to unknown locations. ;)
