What type of air filter do you have?
If it's the "oiled" type (K&N), you need to clean your MAF...

If you are certain the Maf is free of oil residue...
I would look for a bad ground somewhere...
Good Luck...

crap I gota take my family some were, um does the ground
your talking about have something to do with the batt?
Local Boy
08-12-2008, 10:33 PM
Bad grounds are a B*#tch to find...
Try checking across your Bat. terminals, with a volt meter, to see if you are getting between 12-13 volts...This will rule out a bad Bat.
Then do the same with the motor running...you should see @ 14 volts, with the Alt. charging...What does your volt gauge (in car) read, when car is on?
ALOHA
IF all check out "OK"...consider below...
When was the last time you cleaned/changed out the plugs? Maybe time for Seafoam treatment!!!

A/C & defrost mode kicks the throttle up to keep the motor from stalling under the additional load of the compressor.
Might check the throttle position sensor it's on/near the throttle body.
Maybe someone can give the volts to see if it is within specs.
Do you have spell ^?

This is a classic.
Clean everything wash and oil your filter - put it all back together. runs like butta for a day then starts dozing off.
The fresh filter oil got on your clean MAF. Clean it again.

just a lil afther the filter this is this stick thing inside

Local Boy
08-13-2008, 03:41 PM
Ok...
Let's try this again...
^^^Yes...your Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF) is just after the filter...it has an electrical connector attached to the top of it...and yes it has a stick like thingy in the middle of it, when you look inside of it...That's actually the sensors (little wires)...
Be careful NOT TO TOUCH these wires, as they are VERY sensitive...That's what you need to clean first, before anything else...Use MAF cleaner ONLY...

Since you have contacted ("poked") those sensors...I would expect that your sensors will be damaged...Hopefully, not!!!
If your problem persists, or changes for the worst, I would suspect those sensors have been damaged...Then, time for a new MAF...
ALOHA
BTW: Your call on which filter to run...I run a dry filter, just for this reason....You can just clean your filter...and apply a very light coat of oil...Then clean the MAF @ 1 week after installation, to be sure you clean any residue which may have gotten sucked off...

think iam just gonna run a dry filter i freaking seen oil every were,
but hay I dint realy touch the sensors not in the middle but on the side,
of the stick thingy lol, thers like two metal peaces and a lil red thing
running between them I touched that?.
Local Boy

That "red thing" is the actual element that your ECM heats up to a specific temp. then calibrates how cool (temps.) it gets when the air is sucked past it...That's how your ECM knows how much air your engine is ingesting...

Always happy to help, and pass along the knowledge I have learned from the good people here, that have help me as well...
It is certainly possible to have oil sucked up into your TB and intake...However, the only problem to note would be if your TB was sticking (not closing) when you release the throttle...
Easy check...With your hand...operate the throttle...and let it "snap back" on its own...If it indeed "snaps back" to a fully cosed position, your TB is FINE...
ALOHA
BTW: Your IAT (intake air temp. sensor) may be sticking, due to oil getting gunked up in there...It's located on the side of your TB (silver one)...
God Bless you, and yours also...

Don't sweat it, Brutha...
Remember...You have a highly engineered, aerodynamically sound, presion built, sexy, full-bodied 4 door performance sedan, that is more picky than the B*#tchyest woman you'll ever meet, under your control....
There's a price you pay, for all that LOVE...
Now, get back to working that baby, so she can perform the way she was meant too!!!
Trucks are a dime a dozen...
Good Luck...
ALOHA
BTW: The loss of "ponies" as you put it, was probably cause your car was running lean, due to inacurate MAF readings...Not good...
Cleaning your MAF may have saved your motor...

Take the K&N and blot it off with paper towels, don't rub it, blot it. Then let it sit overnight on a couple clean paper towels. It will then be ok to reinstall it. Over oiling after cleaning is a common mistake.
