And you still drive with it like this? :depress:
Sounds like the same problem my brother had....
except he has a replacement motor now.
i would get it looked at by a mechanic ASAP

What car?
The timing chain tensioners are oil pressure activated. Maybe switch to a thinner oil and use a good filter (Mobil 1) will help your situation.
I had a 93 Mark VIII with this issue. Switched to 5W-30 and Mobil 1 filter.... problem stopped.

The vehicle in question is my 2004 Marauder with 78k
Timing chains don't slap on a 4v mod motor. It may become loose if the tensioners are bad. What you are hearing is most likely value chatter.

Also check to make sure it isnt the belt tensioner slapping against the timing cover. I found out that was the problem with mine at start up, a new tensioner only runs about $35, however I replaced mine at it will still hit sometimes on start up:mad2:

If the oil is draining back for some reason.....like in an oil change with a dry filter....you might be hearing a little piston slap?? Won't hurt a thing if that's the case!!
