On any other 03 black marauders does anyone have really bad orange peel on the front of the back doors? Why would this be, i know the cars had bad paint but i always thought the car would be sprayed from front to back??? My car had never had a repaint so just wondering what the rest of u guys have. Thanks!!!

My 03 does not have any orange peel. In fact I am amazed by the lack of it. Are you sure there was not some repaint done?

Thas what I was thinking. Look for paint around he handles and mouldings to see if there are any signs of over spray or masking.

No the car has never seen paint and is factory but from the front of the rear door to about 5 inches from the front it has some orange peel. I can tell if a car had been repainted for sure but this orange peel has always had me thinking. Its the same on both sides also and its the same pattern.

If you can see it then the clear must be thicker there. You could always wet sand and buff to take it out but make sure it is thicker and not just the way it layed out. I noticed the clear in general is very thin and wet sanding on it would not take much to get to the base coat.

In keeping with the RETRO nature of the Marauder I believe all stock Marauders have orange peel,birds-eye,sags,and runs someplace on their car. It was a Ford idea to keep the car looking like the good old days. We did it on purpose.
The nicest Marauder I ever say was on that was completely wet sanded and buffed. When I tried to take a flaw out of my bumper I went right thru the clear coat.(using a small Dermal polishing wheel) DUH!!!!!:banned:

To wet sand I always use 2000 grit paper and then buff with 3M products afterwords. (This includes the correct buffer pads). The key is to have some clear coat to work with. I have done this on many car and they have all come out great including black. If you just try to buff you will end up killing the paint. This being said I have not tried (don't need to) do the paint on my Marauder.

What ever it has or does'nt have, is should be uniformed, more than likely, doors have had an issue.

I guess its not that bad but i can deff. tell that it is there, i just figured that at the factory they painted the car from front to back and that it never would be orange peel in the middle of the car. I tried to take pics but u cant even see it in the pics anyways so i guess its not that bad.

coulda been a problem that happened at the factory like damage in shipping so it was sent back and fixed I hear about that quite often.

It is probably a repaint. You see this because most painters overlap the dry edge at, or right near, door seams, because it's easier to keep track of where you stopped. I thought for sure I knew how to look for repaints, and that the sides of my MM (which have the orange peel spot on the rear doors near where you describe) were OEM paint, until recently, when I was buffing the car under flourescent light, you could BARELY see tell tale hand sanding X's in a few spots.

Most likley a repaint. Factory paint is not applied like a person applies paint. If it's a black MM, the chance for panels having been repainted is huge. OASIS shows my MM had panels repainted (by hand) before it was even sold to the first buyer. So even if you are the original owner, if you have a black MM, a dealer may have repainted panels that were showing clear coat problems.
