I got to thinking.... entering dangerous territory here... Since I had my exhaust done at Grand Muffler and it was set up to be removed quite easily from the headers back, would I gain any sort of advantage by removing said exhaust and running open headers for racing? I'm thinking one of the things I would gain is the most obnoxious Marauder at the track trophy! But seriously folks, any ideas?

I would think that your low end torque would drop, but mid and high range power would increase

No back pressure. If you were turboz

I dont know I dont know many NA running exhaustless - oh...those Toyota Corollas from 1985...because you know..mirrors in the hood make the car faster.

Yes, You will gain volume. Guaranteed!

On my N/A Ford 400 I picked up .28 in the quarter mile with open headers vs. full exhaust. I know, different engines, different car, way different era.

I'll shuddup now.... But have fun.!

yea put the elictric cut outs on and then you could have both

I was considering this option, but I can lose up to 30-35 lbs. by dropping the exhaust. There are only 3 bolts per flange, so removal and re-install would not pose a problem.

It's s dumb idea. It's only good in a test-n-tune and what's the value of that? In a open class competition race (no mufflers) you would get your a$$ handed to you. Mainly because they use electronics, open headers, 10 seconds or better, and you would be against trailer queens. There are better ways to get noticed then tampering with a high quality exhaust system.

I picked up about 30hp/25tq at the rear wheels w/ my cut outs open.... on the Dyno.

These were peak numbers, and I do not recall WHERE during the powerband it came on.

If you want... I can get the graphs.

No Track Results though :(

Does anyone have any pictures of a Marauder with cut outs?

I was not looking for a way to say "look at me and my loud car," I was simply asking whether or not dropping the exhaust would improve my performance. I ask, because I do not know. And when I get the answers, I take them at face value and move on. I did not even know that there were various classes of cars that run exclusively with open headers. I just want to race a few more times and put her to bed and move on to the next hobby.

I completely understand Bob. I understand your passion for your car and the efforts you put into it. Secondly, I want to move on to another hobby. I have some different goals and wish to realign my dreams. I know you were thinking out loud. I just don't think it a good idea. You have the best exhaust that money can buy. Sometimes it's a good feeling to turn on the CD player, roll down the windows, and enjoy the car.

Electronic cutouts are the answer to your dreams. Loud when your sitting at the light next to the rice mobile and quiet when cruising down the highway/freeway listening to Shania. What more could you want, besides Shania.
