Its not my car but my new girlfreinds car that was parked in my driveway last night. I have been having a problem with old girlfreind she wont take a hint.. and i would not put past her to do something stupid. My question.. how can I tell if the car has been messed with. No sugar left around but is there other stuff that could do as much damage and not be detected? :mad2:
Sound like a grudge ***** in the butt is in order.

There's plenty that could be done and hard to detect.
You could siphon as much as possible, then pull the fuel line off the rail and let the fuel pump pump the rest of it out. Add clean fuel and then pump out the lines before re-installing the fuel line to the rail.
Sucks.
Get a locking cap.

Had that happen to me.....I had half a tank of gas in my Taurus and the car just died on me...wouldnt start back up...had it towed to the dealership and 750 bucks later it was running again.....the verdict was that some one put varnish in my tank....they had to drop the tank, clean it out, clean the fuel lines, rails and injectors.

Water will give you trouble too.
Because she knows you are a car guy, she prolly didn't put anything in there, just removed the cap and left it off on purpose so you would have to go through a bunch of work for nothing......
That's what I would do if I wanted to get to a car guy, without actually damaging anything.

Which means its probably fine.
Maybe she was trying to steal the gas but failed at it and left

as noted on myth busters sugar or water will not cause much trouble. All sugar or water will but a little bit will not. If you are worried aobut sugar or water top up your gas with the highest octane you can get or with some octane booster.
Likely hood is that nothing is wrong but you may never know.
You might want to get a camera with motion detection and mount it in your house window to see who is doing stuff and to put a stop to it, in court. Cameras are the best defense or offense in court. If it is the neighbour it would be good to know that too.

Dont chance it, if the ex is a crazy *****, drain the tank.
Its either $50 in gas, or $1500 + parts/labor to fix.
And buy a locking gas cap, $12 from stant.
