Santino has traded in the "Cop" Marauder for a 10th Anniversary SVT Cobra Mustang. It had under 10,000mi was garage kept, spotless but he only got 22,500 for trade in.The good part on that was they took it as it looked so he still has the 18" rims and tires so he can make up some of the loss by selling them. http://home.comcast.net/~hack_goby/images/DCP_1006.JPG

Why would he go and do a thing like that, in 2 years after they stop making the MM the value of the MM will supercede the value of that 10th SVT!

Logan

You wish! I wouldn't count on the value of the Marauder doing much of anything besides heading south.

I really like the cop marauder. And I would love to have one in my fleet. OK, so I'm just dreaming until I get my 6-car garage. But I have a soft spot (on my head) for cop wheels and push bars. And the sad part is . . . can't even figure out how I got this way!

Now Logan what is your concept behind that? I would imagine that atleast it will hold its value well like the Impala SS!

And then there's the Buick Grand National. In 1996, nine years after they were retired, an '87 in excellent condition with very low miles had a book value which was only about $2300 or so less than the cost brand new (the cost new was around $16.8K if you looked around). In other words, it had depreciated less than $2500 in nine years!

Yes buts lets face it the MM is to slow and wont be remembered as well as a Grand National ....that was a freakishly fast car....Impala's are so so....

Huh? The Marauder is quicker then the Impala SS. Also it has more muscle attributes then the SS. The Marauder will do just fine as far as resale goes. You have to wait for about 5-10 years from the time the last one is built. My 68 SS/RS Big Block Camaro was worth way less when it was one year old then when it was brand new but boy look at it now. My 87 Buick Turbo Regal T-type (white) wasn't worth what it is today when the car was 1-2 years old.

I definately think the marauder will keep value as good as the impala SS did if not better.

I strongly agree with you amerikan, MM is a much better looking and performaning unit compare to others that's mentioned above!

We're biased, but I can tell you. It's got two big black marks against it as far as resale goes.

1. It's a Mercury. The brand has NEVER had decent resale. Big depreciation numbers.

2. It's a panther based vehicle, which whether you like it or agree with, the whole "Cop car exploding" thing HAS affected retail value of the platform.

Beyond that, it's FIRST year depreciation is over $13000. I don't care what walk of life you're from, that's alot of money.

It may very well fair quite well AFTER the first year depreciation hit, but I don't anticipate it. Bottom line is it isn't that desired a vehicle. I love the car just as much as you guys, but geez, take the blinders off. If it represented exceptional value, they'd be making more of them.

Wait 5 years and call me an idiot, until then, I'm right cuz it's my site, so nanner nanner nanner! :lol2:

Logan,

I'm forced to agree with you.

Look at the prices for old marauders vs old Chevy SS's

That being said,
I still want a Marauder not an SS.

I hope we are both wrong.

Jay

I'm hope I'm wrong too, but I suspect I'm not. :(

Logan - I tend to agree with you. All panther platform vehicles depreciate very rapidly. I found out when I tried to trade My 2000 GM (Black with handling package) in Nov 2002. The offered me $12,000 for a mint 7,000 mile vehicle.:(

The impala is just as similar to the caprice as the marauder is to the crown vic.. if not more. The resale on a decent impala now is not bad. Logan... yeah for now you're right. But we have to wait and see...

Now I know what the steel wheels would look like on my future MM. I have a set of these wheels and caps on my '92 GMLS. I also have a set of Bullitt wheels with blue-striped Scorchers on them. They won't fit my GMLS w/o $400 worth of spacers. I'm wondering if the previous owner did anything about the re-calibration of the speedo. Any Idea? Plus, did the tires rub on the bottoms of the front and rear fenders at all?

Sorry to see Santino sell his Marauder, guess he wanted to go faster.
The Marauder may not keep up value wise, but as with us older Marauder owners in time, you'll have the only one around, whitch is worth more when people come up to ya and just want to know what it is your driving. I don't know how many have sold yet or been made but i believe it's less than the 9,200 and some that were made in 63.

Logan knows his cars.
The MARAUDER is worth ZIP! (Now & Then)
But to those of US who know
and love the car it's worth everything!
We are just lucky MERCURY has given
us a keeper. Drive it and enjoy it.
Only wish I could afford another one...
Gotta Love It!

At that price, you should have bought it from him before he traded it in.

Sorry to see Santino get rid of his Mau-LAW-der. It was truly different then the others. I wonder if he is going to do the same treatment to his Musty-stang.

For a vehicle to maintain or increase its value, it has to be both rare and desireable. The only modern vehicles that fit this profile are vehicles like the upcoming GT. The first production one was auctioned off for something like $150000. MMs are not well known and there are plenty of them. If they can't sell them now, it may be difficult to sell them in the future. All my opinion of course.

I didn't get to far Hack, got the Crite's headers on then proceeded to find a curb that flatten them to being useless. Bought some nickel plated FPA's that follow the cast iron 427's I took off. Spent 2wks in the Hosp. with a blood clot, so it's been a messed up summer to say the least. But their's still time to do some more, looking for some highbacks that will look good in her, and be comfortable. Got my glass bumper, but am still working on the core support and hinge setup.
I'll be their Sunday, what time are you getting there?

When I bought my MM I had a feeling the resale might not be as good as I would like. I said to hell with it. I'm not looking to sell this car, period. Even with it's faults (I've had only a few problems) I love this car. I love that it's a fast grocery getter, I love the looks it gets.

The few problems I've had with mine I will fix myself in time, like the paint!

So, if the value drops out ... GOOD! I'll buy another one and take it to Dennis!

I'm kinda glad, I have always been wary of people who want to appear to be law enforcement, I watch them extra hard. Theres always something going on there

Hack, you could have removed that push bar and replaced the wheels. But OK

You're right about the CV Sports. I read production figures for 2002 were only about 2,400.
