Hi guys... So something that drives me crazy in used car advertisement: People will advertise their cars with "27,400 ACTUAL miles," or "29,600 ORIGINAL miles."

So what is the difference between:
1) a Mile
2) an "Actual" mile.
3) an "Original" mile.
???????????/

I suppose "Actual" mile just means "I'm telling the truth, the odometer hasn't rolled over."

And I always thought "Original" miles indicated that the car has not been modified in any way what-so-ever.

In either case, I think both terms are bull****.

If there are true meanings to these terms, I would love to know what they are.

I have always read "Original Miles" as on the original drive train (i.e. no engine or transmission replacement or major drivetrain work).

Original miles mean the actual miles put on the car.....since new.
A car could be in a wreck and have the engine replaced, etc.
than the actual original miles are no longer meaningfull because
the motor is new, and now you want to know the actual miles
put on the new motor......BTW "Who's on first"?

Gotta Love It!:beatnik:

Original mileage is what is on the odometer, engine miles are just that engine miles. The Odometre will read total miles and the engine miles are just a side note. Have a carfax check done and you will see what the real miles are.

Note a Marauder with 125000 miles and a new engine with 800 miles is not a Marauder with only 800 miles on it. It is a Marauder with 125000 miles on it.

I wouldn't count on words to discribe milage. I look at the actual condition of the car. The one I picked up has 45k but seriously looks like a 20k car.

The other thing I can't Effing stand is when they put "LOW MILES!" and its got 104k. "low miles" is anything under 40k damn it.

I still have the hours guage that came in the f-350 park district truck i bought years ago. So now you have more choices original, actual, and hours.

Ford says..... 1 hour equals 33 miles, I had a new cruiser (less than 6 months old) come into the shop, over 3000 hours on the hour meter, the car had less than 2K on the odometer. I asked the obvious question, the response, the Sergeant leaves it run all shift till needed, that way, it's ready to go........ to the scrapyard after a year I guess is what he meant.

Vortech347, I have always felt the same way.

But the most idiotic phrase of all time, is "EXTRA CLEAN!"
Totally meaningless when selling car. Am I right?

Thanks, now i know i got screwed! I just looked at the guage and its showing 3552 hrs. but the truck was bought with 42,000 miles. That equalls 117216 miles. Oh well now i know and she was a great truck after all.
