It took me a few weeks but I finally uploaded a tune that Zack sent me up and running in my MM. I have to say that it is really awesome. The tranny behavior is top notch and my car seems to be faster than it has ever been. Ive driven on this tune for 2 days now in different venues (backroads, highways, etc.) and cannot find a glitch in it. The car simply always responds and responds as strongly as possible. Props to Zack!

ok,

I have a different tuner now and it uses .pcm files instead of ll3, I guess they can be converted.. I see you no longer are offering the tune. If you do decide to again, let me know and I will paypal you the funds.. Tnx Richy

To my knowledge, the aftermarket Ford tuning products each use their own proprietary format, meaning [within reason] it cannot be converted and that there is no direct interoperability. It is the manufacturers' mechanism for protecting both their IP and their dealers' tuning strategies. There is undoubtedly a mechanism to acquire a raw/binary dump of the PCM data, but I do not currently know which, if any, Ford tuning software products support a raw format. As you seem to mention here (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=40715), one approach is to write out a custom tune, then pull it into Sniper. I seem to recall a Florida-based tuner doing something similar when going between SCT and Diablo. Can you elaborate a little more in the other thread about how you're moving the SCT tunes into Sniper? Unfortunately, I don't believe the reverse can be done.

Simple.

Once you upload a tune to the ecm, its in Fords OBD II format. A tickle of the chipset by the other tuner software and it comes right out but is re-stored in their format in the interface and on your computer (once you upload/label and store it).

So anything I can upload to the car, I can download with my interface. My conversion is being done by the cars computer itself. The handheld is unaffected by the happenings because the filesize and parameters are the same and it sees it as what was originally uploaded and completes the task without question.

So you start with a stock ecu and download that so you always have your original Marauder file, store it in your PC, then upload the first tune in your handheld, then read it with your interface, reload it back, then use the handheld to make the car stock again and then reload the next tune from the handheld and repeat..

I can come to you right now and read your file right from the ecu itself and store that file, its now in my format.. They could write in Russian, Klingon or Romulan, encrypt it etc.. Once its in an ECU, it can be read with the interface and obviously the conversion from one format to the other is a moot point. Pretty cool..

Yes, the fact that you can write out to and read back from the PCM is understood, as indicated above, and I was looking for confirmation that this is what you're doing with your setup. I was saying that there is no direct interoperability because the formats are proprietary. As I was also stating, I don't believe there is a way to do it in the reverse, i.e., importing a Sniper tune into SCT Advantage using the same method as, from what I can tell, SCT does not support pulling tunes from the PCM. This is assuming that Sniper will not export to a file format which can be read into SCT Advantage. Then there's always the worst case (not sure if you can do this on Ford PCMs), which is that the PCM is locked by the dealer/tuner, but it doesn't appear to be an issue with the Marauder dealers.
