I wanted to talk to the guys that seem to know their stuff....
I just got a 2003 Crown Vic with the above motor in it.
I don't plan on going SC or Turbo so what mods would you recommend a person to go with ? I DID use the search button but couldn't find anything that could give me a package idea.......
I do want to do some kind of CAI (or a version of it) and I want to do exhaust but not sure what else................headers... .intakes....throttle bodies ??
Been a Chevy guy for a long time so I am really new to the Mod stuff...............
Thanks for any help......

For a NA vic, i'd have to say #1 get a tune. Of course a CAI and GEARS (3.73 for everyday driving IMHO)
That should be it for around $1000

Forgive the NEWB question.....a tune ?
In the old days you tuned a car by setting the timing and air/fuel manually. New cars the computer controls it all... changing these variables and a number of others is commonly referred to as a tune.

I know that, we do it all the time at the shop :)
I thought it was a particular brand of tool or something......for that car or motor.......

Perhaps try Crownvic.net. They're the guys to talk to I'd think.

hzemall ...
Marauder airbox+MAF and the requisite tune to accomodate 80MM MAF (versus stock 70MM ).
*IMO this is a foundation if you decide more NA mod's. Forget the CAI.
underdrive pulleys. *Don't add HP, however, allow the engine to spool-up quicker.
if you don't have the HPP (Handling Performance Package) - dual exhaust.
*NOTE: performance mufflers will add little to no HP advantage, therefore it should be considered an audible mod'.
That should take you to ~$1000.
If you can tweak for a bit more .....
TrakLoc (if no already equipped) + gears.
* If you go greater than 3.55 then ... aluminum | MMC driveshaft (will require an extended tail housing for the transmission).
BTW ... To view personal mod's -click the Vic- (http://www.geocities.com/gdmjoe/index.html) <<<<< -click-

I went with the Marauder air box, Maf and zip tube ^^and a tune for 91 octane from BOC (not a vendor here) .
Those mods and a set of steeda UD's and res deletes were all way less than 1000.
The car is a set of gears and a locker away from 14's.

Xcal2 first, cold ait kit next, pro guard UDP or a Mezirie pump or stewart warner

FYI...being a fellow Surreyite. The gears will run you close to a grand round here for parts and labor. If you find it any cheaper than $800 let me know.

CAI, tune-a used 1725 super chips tuner will even help
buy a better tuner for more serious mods later.
and convert to dual exhaust if you don't already.
even stock duals are an improvement from stock single.
or UDP (under drive pulley's)

I agree with the posters above for the most part.
A tune and underdrive pulleys will prolly make the biggest bang for your buck to start. If you have the HPP, then you already have dual exhaust and 3.27 gears. If not, then you have 2.73 gears so changing to 3.27s or 3.55s will make a BIG difference.

Once upon a time in a galaxy far far away when my Crown Vic was stock...
My first mods were the Xcal2, Steeda underdrive pulleys, Marauder airbox/maf, P71 ziptube, 1-step colder sparkplugs, and a 180^ thermostat. All of those were purchased from Dennis Reinhart and got the car to a 15.08 @ 92.3mph 1/4 mile time with the open 3.27 rear. When I switched to a trak-loc 3.73 gears Dennis sent me an updated tune file and the car then ran 14.79 @ 92.3mph in the 1/4.
My Vic is an LX Sport so it came with the HPP package.
