It's not official yet, but I'm buying Joe Walsh's D1SC Procharger. Yes I am going to put it on a stock engine. No I'm not going to try and blow it up. I figure on running about 10psi., which brings me to my first question. What size pulley do I need(4.0,3.8)? The kit has a 3.2 and I would be willing to trade if someone wants to run more boost. The other question is, will the 60lb injectors be too much for about 425rwhp? Can the dyno tuner change the duty cycle on the injectors so the engine doesn't flood/bog? Any help is much appreciated. I've been reading all the procharger posts over and over. I'm super excited to install but can't for about two weeks.

PS LVMarauder... let me know how your D1SC works out

The 60's will work, but are way overkill. The tuner can compensate, yes.
You can pick up used Cobra injectors for 100 bucks shipped. Id put those in instead and sell the 60's.
IIRC, you need a 3.8 for 10psi.

And, If I were putting this in my car, I would buy a Mustang fan shroud, rather than flipping the stock unit upside down.
Good luck!

BTW: You DO have the trans beefed up already, right? That blower will trash that trans in a hurry if you dont properly prep it.

Thanks for the heads up Zack. What year cobra injectors and mustang fan shroud? I haven't beefed the trans. I'm gonna try and take it easy and do trans mods next year. I can only allow myself one big project a year or I'll spend all my money!

The injectors are from an 03-04 Cobra and will be BLUE.
They are rated at 39#'s

The fan shroud is from any 99-04 V8 Stang. You will need to make the brackets to mount it though.

Hey Zack,

I thought I remember reading a post where you said the 4R70W can be beefed up for like $400 and i could do it myself?

I ran a 3.90 pulley and made 475 rwhp. But I had other supporting mods such as headers, etc... According to the tuner I was using at the time the Cobra injectors weren't enough so I upgraded to the 60's. I would recommend 4.00 pulley and 60 lb injectors if you want it to last awhile and be equipped for future upgrades. But yeah, the Mustang fan shroud is a better way to go. It's kind of a pain to change the motor and controller out but it's a better fit than the upside down OEM fan. Requires a couple of simple brackets to be made.

I tried calling them today but got the voicemail. I was going to ask them about the 60lb injectors and if the can modify my existing SCT Lidio tune so I can retain the transmission tuning.

I've got so many thoughts and mods going through my head right now. I think I will keep the 60lb injectors as long as they don't hurt my performance. I found the fan shroud brand new on ebay for $89.99+shipping. I also ordered the Evenflow cooling kit from Dennis. I figure why not do it while i'm under the hood. I'm also going to do the EV153 '03 Cobra PCV valve mod while i'm at it.

What did you have to replace in the trans to beef it up?

P.S. Did you check out the band Opeth?

I took it to someone and had it "built." I am not competely sure what was done, but I know a shift kit, 3500 stall with the T/C being rebuilt because it cost me my tranny in the first place. Be sure that there isn't a piece in the T/C that belongs on a STOCK Ford because it will not hold up. You can get a T/C built for $120 if it isn't already. It cost me about $2100 by the time I was done with everything includding labor. What a nightmare. :mad2:

I will check out the band soon!

I run 3.7 pulley at 9.5 PSI at 6250 peak. P1SC.

A pulley can be had from ATI for $89 and comes with new bolt and washer.

Get the abdiatic charts from Procharger and follow the curve.

Personally, I wouldn't ask for more than 450 RWHP on a stock motor daily driver, but that's just me - I'm conservative. I've seen 485 on a supportingly modded car (like FordNut said) be pretty reliable, but that car is definately a freak!

I want to say they are - but that's a good question for Zack.

A 3.6 on a D1SC is gonna be like in the 475-500 neighborhood. Pushing luck on stock motor!!! Gonna have to be tuned RIIIICCCHHH to keep it together with a 3.6!

Blow it slam up. That kit HAD to be for a built motor!

Look at it this way - the D1SC flows more than yours or Greg's (by about 200 CFM peak) and you guys are using 3.3's!!!

magindat

On second, thought - perhaps a selection of pulleys is the answer? Hard to tell what each motor will do....

Based on what I've read and seen, though, a 3.6 will probly be about 12 or 13 on a D1SC, I'm guessing 3.7 would be about 11, 3.8 would be about 10. I base this guesstimate on peak flow over P1SC of about 200 CFM and P1SC doing 9.5 on a 3.7. He said he wanted about 10 which is SMART and would be pretty SAFE and should net him in the 450-sh range.

If it were me, I'd go 3.8 or 3.9 - let it do what it will do HP wise. Get used to driving it, widen wheels, beef trans, etc - then if there is still safe room to go smaller - it's only $89 plus a tune!

Procharger pullies and Vortech pullies are not interchangeable.

39# Injectors are good to 550rwhp

As for maintaining the Lidio Transmission values, Kurgan cant 'remove' the values from the tuner. I however, have those settings saved as a value file. FWIW, those setings will not be beneficial to your application.

Currently installin The Procharger right now. Tonight the fuel pump goes in and the PCV valve mod. Tommorow the trans cooler and Zack's base tune. I had a dyno tune scheduled for tommorow but i canceled so i wouldn't be rushed. The total install is going to take me 4 days. Either i'm a putz or perfectionist. Pics to follow. Thanks to Zack and everyone who helped me along the way!

Great. What's your ballpark RWHP?

Any others?

I'm thinking of swapping ou the 3.7 for a 3.6 and want to know the pros and cons.

Is the chance of a big bang more likely?

Also, can the injectors and fuel pump that came with the FIT kit safely handle a 3.6 pulley?

Is a MAF extender needed?

Thanks in advance.

Local Boy
10-16-2008, 09:37 AM
Regarding the "Big Bang" it's really ALL in the tune...

Mine is a DD, so reliability is the priority...

It dyno'ed at 430hp and 383 ft.lbs. with stock exhaust

This is with 13* of timming, very safe tune...

It had more in it, but I chose to stay there for reliability sake...

39lbs injectors are fine, I'm running the GT pump...

The MAF pegged at 410hp, so I had to up-grade to the 2400 SCT MAF..

I don't have any "cons" to speak of...Unless you consider coming into boost sooner, and lowering your MPG's a bit... a negative...:D

A heads up too, if you want more power, swap the 39's for 60's. Mine were at full duty cycle at WOT and I was making 445 to the wheels. First thing my tuner told me if I wanted to achieve more power. My MAF was also pegged at WOT and I was running a 90 L MAF.

Mine took me about 3 days. But it was down for a week lol since it was at my friend's garage, and we worked on it at odd times and not for long. So 3-4 days for a first time install is good. I'm glad to see another self installer!

I should be getting my SW headers soon. Then off to the exhaust shop for custom mandrel bent stainless :D. Then on the 24th.......the long awaited dyno tune. I've got 60lb. injectors, 90mm MAF w/MAFia and Walbro 255 lph fuel pump. Not expecting any problems with that set-up. I'll post some more pics and dyno numbers as soon as i get then. I'm guessing about 425-450 rwhp :burnout:

You sure about that? He told me all the Cobra's he's tuned they've always swapped the injectors out. Considering his brother has an '04 Cobra with a KB and supporting mods making 650+ to the wheels, I would think he knows what he's talking about. He even told me though, with the stock Eaton, one of the first things they changed were the injectors and MAF they gained an extra 50hp or so. I'll double check with him. No they're not, they were on the car when I sold it since I never upgraded.
