Ok first off i dont have a fancy DSLR camera, i use a cannon power***** 750SD, and as long as im still it takes good sometimes "sometimes" great photos.

Im going to take some photos down by the lake before the car show, "and use a tripod ;) " and would like to know the best way to get some good photos. I never really messed around with it outside of auto mode.

Here's like the best 2 photos ive taken with my camera to date. Most others phail

Turnpike Service Place (http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e185/offroadkarter/My%20Marauder/IMG_0186.jpg)

Sunset shot (http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e185/offroadkarter/My%20Marauder/IMG_0278.jpg)

Driveway shot (http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e185/offroadkarter/My%20Marauder/IMG_0307.jpg)

Zoom in, One of my favorite shots (http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e185/offroadkarter/My%20Marauder/IMG_0310.jpg)

Angle (http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e185/offroadkarter/My%20Marauder/IMG_0309.jpg)

I wont even get into those artsy fender shots, i might scare you away

Anyways, ill check in the morning and afternoon, and try out whatever pops up in the PM.

Get it into open areas, the clutter in the background is distracting.I liked the last shot (zoom in) when you shot from down more at the cars level the best, but the tree growing out of the car and the garage took away from the car.The shot in your signature was pretty good, the camera angle and having the front wheel turned to see the wheel as you had it was very good.If you only just the green bushes in the background and slightly blurred them with no other distractions that would be a great shot. Try looking at some car magazines for ideas and some have recently even given hints on how to photograph your car to get the magazine to either publish your pics or to send a pro to include it in their magazine. You can pick up a book on photography fairly cheap and learn how to use depth of field and other stuff to improve your photography. You're one step up already by having a tripod.
Don't get discouraged, you've got a digital camera so you're not buying film and paying for developing, you can shoot tons of pics for very little cost,so keep practicing.
BTW,nice DTR.

What you see in the viewfinder is what you get. Larry's right...look beyond the main subject. The first picture, for example. If you moved a little to the left and bent your knees a bit, you'd hid that large green dumpster in the background. Do as much framing as possible when you take the picture. Some things can be cropped out afterwards, but a little care when taking the picture, makes for a lighter composition.

Keep shooting and critiquing!

UncleLar's comments are right on the money. I might add, watch for bizarre reflections also.

Any results yet?

PS It is okay to fail, that is one of the great things about digital, you can take a ton of shots and learn from the ones that fail. I have a hard drive full of shots that fail
