Most of you who know me know my corporate employment ends on September 30. I've been incredibly nervous about it and have been searching for a new corporate gig for about a year.

I've had no luck in this crappy economy with a decent offer I can live on, so I made lemonade!

I've decided to self-employ. I've been toying with the idea for a while. This week 6 unsolicited jobs fell into my lap! Guess somebody is telling me something! The garage is now a computer lab!

The new www.magindat.net (http://www.magindat.net) is up and if any of you need any of what I have to offer, just make contact!!! I can actually remote assist you from anywhere that has an internet connection!

To the admins, if this is considered vendor stuff, I'll take care of this site when income allows!!!

To all my friends here, thanks for your support!

A hint, if you are working from home and don't use your car for travelling to business appointments, then consider getting your insurance for pleasure use only. If you are using it for business upgrade it for more than commutting to and from business. Nobody ever got rich being just an employee.

Hi Rich,

You have the right Stuff and will do well. I don't know enough about computers to even know if I have a problem. However, I have a set of Lazer Blinders I plan to pay to have installed. If you are still doing that kind of work I know of no one better to do it. Let me know, my friend. Dennis:beer:

Rich, for those of us not completely in the know, what is it that you do exactly? Is it some form of IT support?

Thanks and good luck!

Dayum Rich, I can't believe all this is going on! You are obviously answering the call that has been ringing for a while now. If people could understand how competent and knowledgeable you are, you will prosper like a mother with this venture. I know I would trust you with any computer problems I had. And for all that you have done for this site, all the monies you have raised, all the time and product you donated, I say they are lucky to have you! If there is anything I can do for you, please let me know. BTW, I still need to head up there and red line my rear end!! (If you have any room left in your garage) Good luck and see you soon!

Well done Rich! I hung my shingle out years ago, and haven't looked back.

Managed to pull in a few good contracts, and have never regretted working for myself. Don't forget, milk the system for all it's worth! Up here, the tax laws favour the small business . . . so use them to your advantage! A good accountant is invaluable!

Thanks all you guys!

My last day of official employment was Tuesday the 30th. They have already sent me a PO as a subcontractor! That took a whopping 1.5 days!

Amazing...

Welcome to the American way of doing business, outsourcing.

Ironic, your old company lets you go, then turns right around and hires you as a subcontractor. They don't have to pay bennies and personnel costs and you get a contract, one of many I'm sure.

Good Luck Rich, My oldest son's an IT and it didn't take long to be self sufficient, but the hours are long.

I just started in a contract to perm position with a non-profit adoption and foster care organization.

I'm finally an executive! They call it Network Administrator, but in their language Administrator is used in the managerial sense.

I've been here a week. CFO is super cool - is supporting education and success. I have two staffers. I already have complete access physically and logically and purchasing powers.

They allowed me to keep my business and I will continue to do the web protion of it. Locally, I have a friend who is also starting a computer repair company. We have ageed he'll take my home and small office stuff while he passes web and database stuff to me.

I absolutely love this job. It's challenging and the place is a mess, so I get to clean it up and call it mine. At the end od the day, we're helping kids by helping the folks who take care of them. It's an awesome feeling and a driving force!!!

Congrats Rich! Most of my charity donations go to help children and I see 1st hand what adoption can do for a child as one of my people adopted a little boy out of poverty 8 years ago.
