OK, I've just about had it with Autometer. I'm on my 4th sending unit and it's acting up again. Do any other sending units work with the Autometer gaute, such as Aeroforce or SW? I have already tried the OEM sending unit for Fords which had a "real" oil pressure gauge and they don't work with the Autometer gauge. I would like to stick with the Autometer since it matches the rest of my gauges but I'm really tired of replacing sending units.

I feel your pain, but do not have any solutions.

The next time mine goes I have parts for remote mount (ordered from Summit) and another sending unit waiting. I too do not want to swap out my gauges to a different style. BTW (off topic), I've purchased the Autometer green LED replacement bulbs and will be trying them in the Ultra Lites to see if it helps at all with nighttime visibility.

Now you know why I did mechanical to begin with....

I used Phantom II gauges for the Oil and Volts. White face and black bezel matches well. No leaks and oil PSI are always accurate.

The LED lights were a bit too bright, but I used a resistor which brought them in line with the rest of the gauge lights.

Sorry you are haveing issues...

Personally, not a fan of bringing fluids into the cab.

A mechanical Voltmeter, eh? :D

Were these the AutoMeter LED replacements (shown here (http://www.autometer.com/cat_accessorieslist.aspx?pid=2 7))?

I have heard that the senders act up but I been pretty lucky so far....

What are the first signs? It drops to zero or bounces all over the place?

I've had my original sender for almost four years and the only problem I've had was when the solder joint I made to adapt the OEM plug broke.....I FROZE as the OP went to "ZERO"!!!!

Got home after listening for motor noise (none) and re-soldered (better) and it's been about a year without any problems!!

I think they might have gotten a BUNCH of bad senders from CHINA??

If you call them they might give you the resistance range and perhaps you can match up another sender......It's just a simple ohm meter!!

What's the worry? Lines and fittings I used are rated to 1,200 Psi.... I have always run them in my modified vehicles, never had an issue. You'd be surprised how little oil is moving through the line.
Personl preference I guess, I have had really good luck over the past 25 years of having used them. The first car I put it in I used the nylon line with compression fittings, that developed a slight drip after 6 years in the car, dragracing three times a week. I just had to trim the line and add a new collar. No worries.

Oh, come on now, I was refering to the point I replaced the two gauges so they would match... But you knew that.

The Phantom II come with LED backlighting. Cannnot be changed/substituted without destroying the casing, so I dimmed them, as LED is much more effecient than the OEM incandesent.

Brian,
IIRC Aeroforce uses a General Motors sender.

I am on my second sender also. You would think they would last more than two years.

They know their product is junk, thats why they always send them out free of charge and dont need to see an original purchase receipt.

I guess it's another instance of "bend over, Brian".

All of mine have been free too.

BTW, the LED replacement bulbs are HIDEOUS. They look even worse than the picture:

I'll find some white LEDs soon. I tried the amber and blue ones from my FLAPS, and they were all fugly.
