I just found this forum a few days ago… You guys are pretty knowledgeable, so, let me pick your brains for a moment. I’m looking to purchase an underdrive pulley kit and I was wondering if there are any other options to the Steeda pulley kit.
You guys help is very much appreciated!

Hi Chris:
For easy of mind and safeguard your engine, suggest you stick with the MM.Net riders tried and true Steeda UDP set . It worked for me!
However if you must check out other brands then go on line to the Summit Racing Equipment catalog and or give their tech support a call and seek their recommendations.
Good luck

Go with the Steeda kit. It has a replacement for the stock harmonic balancer. Some kits use an piggyback pulley for the balancer and it will cause problems.

There was a member here a few years ago whose engine was destroyed by using the wrong harmonic dampener. Stick with a proven product.

Thanks Fred… I was going to contact Summit little later. I’m just trying to get all the information I can. This Marauder is the first Ford I’ve ever owned so I’m a little lost. Correct me if I’m wrong but the engine is that same set up as the 2002 Cobra. Like I said PLEASE correct me if I’m wrong.

Engine destroyed, suck...
I'm taking a hard stance against that.

Remember, too, that although Summit and Jeg's may sometimes have a slightly better price, it's the supporting vendors on this board that help keep the lights on, the floors swept, and the fridge stocked. Please patronize them whenever possible.

Shows you how much I know about late model Fords. :)

piggy back pulley?
Yes, bolts to the original balancer instead of replacing it.

Hi Chris:
You rise a very interesting and for me a confusing question, is it or is it not a Cobra engine? a qualified yes!
For the past 7 months I have read every review, article, and forum thread that I could find relative to the 2003 –2004 MM and my conclusion?
One early MM review stipulates that the MM DOHV engine is based upon the early 2003 Cobra Mustang, however most MM reviews stipulate that the MM and Mach 1 share the same all aluminum modular engines based upon the Cobra 4.6 lt Modular engine.
The MM/Mach1 aluminum DOHV 4.6 Lt engine does use certain versions/production yrs of the Cobra heads, intake manifold, rods and modular aluminum block and a number of other bolt-on accessories.
Most late model Cobras is based upon the 4.6 lt iron block, forged crank, Rods and any one of 3 aluminum heads version.
The SC Cobra Mustangs all use forged crank, rods and pistons and different version aluminum heads.
The cams, valve springs and actuators is an other interesting story as well as exhaust headers, hot pipe diameters, “X” vs “H” pipes, CATS and CAT Back systems.
Just google Mercury Marauder and there is a whole list of editorials, reviews, press releases in addition to MM.Net “search” resource as I’m running out of wind!
If you are looking for engine parts stick to the MM or Mach 1 first followed by the DOHV categories.
Enjoy

I have the pullies on my MM and they work fine. They are a worthwhile mod for the NA type.

Naturally Aspirated engines...you typically cannot use UDPs on a Supercharged engine.
BTW: I had a set of Steeda UDPs and opted for SHM's UDPs when I rebuilt my engine.
The SHM UDPs have more weight/mass in the balancer vs. the Steeda UDPs.
(You won't need the alternator pulley from the UDP set as it is the same size as the OEM alternator pulley.)

Actually, I WAS going to keep my UDP in conjunction with the Procharger kit, I just had to upsize the blower pulley to compensate for the UDP.
Now I don't have to worry about it anymore....:bigcry:

Yea but then you promote belt slip with a smaller pulley on the blower. I found this out with my S-trim.
