Jeremy (jdando) and I along with two of my daughters chased and photographed the Milwaukee Road #261 on Sunday Sept 14th.

Here are a few of my favorites.

Nice job Curt! . . . and Jeremy.

My favorite is the third one. I really like the composition on that shot. It sounds like you all had a fun time. I wish we had trains like that down here in Florida.

If you have more, let's see them!

Whoa, I guess you just did.

Yes, my youngest daughter had the DVD video camera. She got 4 or 5 clips. I'll have to try an figure out how to get those uploaded.

Thanks John.

We had a blast. We put on about 300 miles and were gone about nine hours.

At times we had the MM up around 100 to catch the train after it blew by us. We were standing outside the depot in LaCrosse, WI and this guy walks up to us with a big grin on his face and asks "how many tickets have you gotten with that thing". I replied with a big zero. He's ridden the train several times. Robert was his name. Nice guy.

Jeremy got his cell number in the event we lost the train, we could call him to find out where they were.

The 261 is undergoing a manditory rebuild. I've read it will be ready in the fall of 2009.

Thanks,
Curt

Cool pics!

Reminds me of my youth. Not that I'm old enough to remember steam trains, I just thought trains were cool when I was a kid.

Gave me a new background for awhile!

I wish my Dad was still alive and I could show him these pics or better yet take a ride with him on this bad boy.He would've loved it and spent a week telling me all about the steam trains. He passed away this past January 4 months shy of his 100th birthday,he was born the same year the Model T came out and the last time the Cubs won the World Series and he saw some real changes in his lifetime.
I can't wait to see and hear the videos.

These are the pictures BEFORE the rebuild!!

That engine looks mint! It must be VERY well maintained!

The boiler tubes do tend to get a little thin after awhile.

Thanks for the pictures - they are great!

What kind of chase vehicle is that? Oh a Marauder hay that was factory supercharged right? LOL I hear this too much! Great shots man, we have a train museum about an hour west of me and to see some of those steamers in a poll barn is like a modern marvel.

I am late to the party again...

We had a great day, cars, steam engines and good people! Curt is a first rate wheel man. Kept us ahead of the train and safe all day.

Here are a few of mine.

Regarding the top speed of the locomotive, I am pretty clueless. It was going 60-70mph at times and it sounded like it had a lot left. Not sure if there are many tracks good enough to exceed that speed however.

This is a great shot. It gives you the impression the locomotive is traveling at a very high speed. It also gives you a perspective of how large these locomotive are.
