View Full Version : I think soda is all over my trunk

I went to my car today to discover a very sticky liquid all over my trunk. At first I thought it was tree sap, but this isn't little bits all over the place, this totally was a liquid and it got all over my trunk. By the looks of it, someone must have thrown a cup of soda at someone and it managed to splash on my car too. You cannot see drips of it going down onto the fender, but you just see these metal flake looking things all over.
How do I get this off? I was going to get the car detailed, but looks like it might need more than that. Any suggestions?

Try using car wash soap? Should take it off.
If not, i guess tar and sap remover should help.

Is it just on the carpet on under it too? Take the carpet out and wash it out. Have fun with the floor, though.

That would work. But before trying that, you might want to
scramble some eggs in a bowl, add a bit of garlic powder and basil, then pour the mixture over the trunk and allow it to cook in the sun for 30 minutes.
Then follow th instructions Joe passed on.
either that or wash you car.

Used kerosene instead of the brake fluid..... :D
It didn't work on the inside of the motor.....
Maybe it will work better on the outside of the car.

H2SO4 or SO3, about 32 molar strength, will clear that right up.

I'm pretty sure he means the boot lid/cover. Not the inside.
Thanx for the clarification. I'll unsubscribe now...........

Soda is nothing more than sugar and syrup. Both will dissolve in very hot water and pick right up with a shop-vac.

The soda was just on the outside of the trunk, nothing got in.

Don't be too comfortable with soda on your paint. There is a lot of acid in much of it.
Similar to fruit juices and many other food products, most soft drinks are slightly acidic. Acidulants add a pleasant tartness to soft drinks and act as a preservative. Some soft drinks contain a small amount of one or two common food acidulants - phosphoric acid and citric acid. Occasionally, other acidulants such as malic acid or tartaric acid are also used.

IF it makes you feel any better I had a full bottle of wine break in the back of my stang. What a MESS, and the SMELL oh man I had to rip 1/2 the interior out of the car.
