As some of you know, my Marauder was in a fender bender last month.
http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=46700&highlight=black+eye
The Insurance company said that they were going to use after market parts for almost everything. I decided to forget the claim and just pay out of pocket.
"I" bought all new "OE" parts from Ford (Hood, Fender, Head Panel, Grill, Front Bumper, and Head/ Corner/ Fog lights).
I was going to get a local shop up here in Maryland to do the job but decided against it because I remembered John's car.
http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=36339.
Also, I don't make it to many of the Sunshine State Marauder meets because I am a relatively young guy and work all the time (trying to get ahead so that I too can one day have the leisure time that my fellow SSM members have) but I made sure to make it to the meet where John first showed us his new custom paint. Wow is about all I remember saying.
Recently, J.J. posted this...another great and custom paint job. http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=44642
I knew that before I take my car anywhere, I would at least call him. Turns out that he is a heck of a nice guy and I will drive about 6 hours from my house (one way) to take my car to him for the job.
Here is where this post gets fun. As you may have noticed, J.J. seems to have a trademark thing going on putting custom Silver strips on the Black Marauders. I know that he and John intended for their cars to be one of a kind so their specific strips are not an option.
What strips to you guys recommend will look good on a car this big? Post pics or even Photoshop your ideas.

It's ALL in the prep work before the color goes on.
You can spend $1000.00 a quart, spray it on poorly prepped metal and it looks like a hairy a$$. Or you can get $25.00 over the counter paint, sparay it on fantastically prepped steel an it looks like a million bucks.
If the shop don't prep good.... move on.

You'll be in great hands with JJ.
You can do a stripe across the trunk like the old Mack 1. I don't have a pix handy but I think you sort of know what I mean.

You are right!!!
It will look much better if the lines stay above the door handles. You and MarauderTJA have good taste. This is the perfect hight for the lines and they can get a little bigger as they go towards the back of the car.

However, I still want the hood to look like this (except all White).

Thanks for the advice and nice paint on your ride!

I think you are on the right track here. Do the hood like the yellow mustand and the side stripes like the foose truck. Just a thought to stick with the MM theme use Silver birch and DTR for the stripe colors Like the Foose truck.

I think that is exactly the way to describe what I want. I think it would be cool to use all the Marauder colors (except the darn "Blue" ;)) but feel like it's over the top for me.
I fell in love with the shiny black and white. The question for me now is exactly which white paint to get.
I REALLY like the white of MI2QWK4U's 2006 Mustang GT.

I'd do it like the truck. SB for the main color, DTR for the pinstripes and stop the part the comes down on the bumper of the truck up on the hood above the grille, keeping the number of painted panels to a minimum. (JJ's first bit of paint on his own car was like that)
If you're gonna run the stripe larger as it goes back, have a MARAUDER stencil made and either stencil out the silver, letting the black show thru or back paint it with blue and represent all Marauder colors. I, however, think the line should stay even sized. It will make the car look sectioned and look lower and faster.
I really do like the idea of the pinstripes in DTR or blue around SB main lines.

I agree, SB stripes with blue outlines would look great

I might be wrong but I'd check with a lawyer as I believe you not only have the right to DEMAND the insurance company use ONLY OEM parts to repair your car but also you should be able to get a check for "diminished value" for the amount of depreciation your car will suffer as opposed to a similar one that's never been in an accident.
ASAP find a good accident lawyer and ask him about both of the above. Most will answer a couple of questions for you at no charge but even if you have to pay a small amount I'm sure it'll be a lot less than you paid for the oem replacement parts and if I'm correct you may be able to return the parts for some kind of refund or credit.Check it out,you ain't got much to lose.

First, thank you for giving me sound advice.
I think that I will take you on it and do it like the Foose truck because it has more curvy lines like the Marauder while the Stang has much sharper lines. Thus, what looks great on the Stang, might look out of place on the Marauder.
The idea about using a stencil to allow the black to show through the silver is another great idea. I want something small but don't even know where to begin about having one made.
Also, I really don't have much interest in representing all the Marauder colors with mine. What if I just used the same silver for the pin strips? I am really afraid of making it too busy.
Last thing, I am unsure of what you mean about where it starts and where it ends.

Thanks for the advice. However, the accident was my fault so I think I can forget about diminished value. If not, I will talk to a lawyer.
About the aftermarket parts, they say that because of the year (2003) and mileage (57K) they have every right to use after market parts.
I didn't want the headach and my deductable would have been a grand anyways. I just hope that's the last mistake or "accident" I am get involved in for a long time. I am really thankful that nobody was hurt and that my only worry is finding the right place for repair.

The insurance co should at least give you the differance over the $1000 deductable. $1K does not go very far in auto repair. Have they given you a total of what the estimate was going to be? I had to put a sand damage clain in on my MM and the ins co ended up paying out about $3k for mostly paint.

They will give me everything past 1K (my deductable) and then I would also have to pay the difference between aftermarket parts and OE. After those two expenses, I decided that in this case (fender bender) it may pay more (in the long run) to just pay out of pocket.

You guys have me thinking about the pin stripes. What do you guys think about painting it along the lines of the Foose F-150 but instead of putting one orange pin stripe on each side of the silver, I put only one blue line along the bottom/ outer edge?
With your creative input this project may come out pretty good.

I like it, but it's not for me. It looks more like it like improvised flames on the car and I relate that to a paint job for more classic muscle cars.
I think that the stripes from the Foose truck have a bit more of a modern take to them.

those are called "scallops" not flames.

+1 . A pinstripe the length of the car along the natural lines of the car. Nothing to bright nothing to dark. If all else fails just leave her black, nothing is beter than basic black.
Good luck with the repaint.

They're a bit scallop like but they're still more flames, just kinda streamlined. You weren't around in the 50's&60's to have seen real scallops or you'd know what I mean.I was around to see the old tail draggers and lead sleds and customs and everything since then.

Lar i have a love for old hot rods and lead sleds.... infact i have almost read all of my father subsriptions to Street Rodder since 91. i know what real scallops look like and how the old gassers and old rods are in a class of their own.
trust me i may be young but i am not a dummy on old cars lol

NP,we just have differing opinions of what constitutes flame and scallops. It's nice to see a young guy well grounded in hot rodding history.
BTW,have you ever heard of the $1000 eBay 32 Ford roadster that created such a stir among hardcore hot rodders? My buddy in CA,Beppie scored it buy it now off eBay about a year or so ago for $1000.it is no scam ,he got it.Beppie grew up with Roy Brizio and sends me tons of pics of cars being built and restored in his shop. One of the most famous was the Ala Kart which I have a lot of pictures of while in progress during it's restoration. The Ala Kart is one of the most beautiful and famous rods ever built.
Here's a link to Roy's shop during his open house this year and there's some shots of the Ala Kart in there.Your dad might enjoy his site too.

What about doing the regular fat ford stripes (2)(top pic) that, change at the back of the hood to two skinnier stripes (bottum pic) that do go down the sides of the car. That would look sweet.

Traditional or how radical/different can you stand? How much time can your painter devote to it and how critical are you?
Oh, and how much attention can you tolerate?
