Do you want cheap?
If so:
Remove the Rear Cats.
Install the Muffler of YOUR choice.
Extend the stock tips 1.5" from where they are.
I do not have a muffler recommendation, as I run what I posted up above ;)

Since you got big $$$, I say you pay for what I think I want, and I'll immediately report the outcome back to you! I like em' loud so I got rid of my stock mufflers, kept the 4 stock cats , and resonated tips. Got a nice rumble, but I recently purchased Stainless Steel long tube headers, which will also include 2 high flow performance cats, I'm leaving off the mufflers and see how I like em'. If not I'll probably go for Flowmasters 40 series or whatever is louder.

There are a lot of Marauders in Florida. Attend one of the SSM meets and let your ears decide what set up meets your liking.
You can not judge from what other peoples personal likes are, it has to be yours.

For mufflers I suggest ... http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField= 6631
Then I went with dropping the rear cats and did the exhaust all in 2.5 inch in its original configuration out to the resonator'd tips ...
Dont let any of these wild guys tell yah about the waste gate in the muffler dropping out or breaking.... I test it out every time I drive the car ...

Ideally, you'll want this:

2 grand with headers.
Ideally.

Come on out to the Towers Meet on Fridays, and you'll be able to hear FlowMaster Super 40's, and some Magnaflows, and possibly others.

Def. attend a local meet. Listening to exhaust tones on videos is one thing, listening to the real exhaust from inside and outside of the car is a whole other thing.

You're in Florida. Take it to DR (Dennis) and let him install the headers and associated hardware.

i went to mad hatter today and got 40's put on. 212$ out the door. really sounds great.... took the rear cats off... and now i have that little honda noise... you know.. when the exhaust starts to raddle... im gonna take it back to mad hatter... but what do u think causes that? is that the infamous "drone" word?

Drone is a harmonic where the whole car turns into a sound chamber at certain rpm's and resonates, depending on how bad it is it can make you not want to drive the car, your wife or gf will refuse to ride in it and she'll make your life miserable. When you hear it you'll know what it is,it can be very unpleasant.

If you take it back have them exstend the tips just past the end of the bumper cover. That's what helped quiet the drone for me.

Get some dynomax turbo mufflers... they are great. I have Long tube headers with 1 3/4" primaries 3" collectors and 3" exhaust all the way back to the mufflers (no cats) and my car is a ****y cat at idle and while cruising. The only time it gets loud is when I get into it :banana2:

After my header install and before hooking up the oem mufflers I had a wicked drone at 2,000 RPM. So bad, I couldn't hear anything other than the exhaust and the whole cabin shook. Now it's all hooked up and all better.
Borlas always seem to offer a nice tone, if that is all you are looking for. Ctrlraven was doing something witha a cat-back suystem.
I am about performance (function) over sound. So, I really like the headers, one pair of high flow cats, X-pipe and OEM mufflers. It is perfect for me and my daily driver. Wifey can't even tell the difference, and we just took a 300 mile trip this past weekend.
Guess you have to do what suits you. If all you want is noise, remove the muffles completely and put in straight pipes from the H-pipe to the tail pipes....

WOW, thats an INSANE price for one muffler when there are sooo many other options out there. Can you get a sound clip? I want to hear these baller mufflers.
To the thread starter, I would definately check out the local Marauders and decide on a muffler setup. I didnt want the same slowmasters that everyone and their dog has. I had Magnaflows on the car and they were nice but not loud enough for me. I personally went with MAC Flow Path mufflers along with a MAC Prochamber crossover pipe for 2 reasons. 1 - a good friend of mine has this setup on his Mustang and it sounds AWESOME and 2 - I wanted to be different. I think it sounds great, the Prochamber definately gives it a different sound.

the drone is not "that bad" i was very tired last night... when driving home. so it annyoyed me a little.. to the point i was on the turnpike and took it out of gear to make sure that wasnt my normal rear tire noise..
im going to take it back to explain the whole honda spit noise it makes... when im accellerating and get around 3,000 rpm it makes that raddle noise.... you know.. what the ricers do. and i dont like it.

Do you want loud all the time? Loud only at heavy throttle? Sneak home at 4 am or wake the neighbors and the wife just idling into the driveway? ;) It's all in what you want.

Still trying to work out a reasonable price just to have mine done. For the price they want to do mine I could get headers. That does not mean what everyone else would pay that steep of a price ($1087) but they do some of the best work around. I'm in talks with a few other shops also about getting something made up.
I had Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers first, but the noise & drone INSIDE the cabin was much louder than outside the vehicle. I opted for 18"-case MAGNAFLOW mufflers and now enjoy a deep, rich sound with NO drone inside, and equally deep, burbling OUTSIDE the vehicle.
(If you want it louder, consider 14"-case Magnaflows with resonator-delete tips. DRONE wears on you real quick!)

Couldn't agree more. That's how I shopped for my mufflers... using Mustang exhaust clips and listening to lots of cars in person. Post in a sticky or a little bit more organized in the wiki.
HELP! and im in south florida, if anyone has any recommendations for a shop.
Miami Muffler off of SW 185th Ter. The only shop in the state (that I could find) with a Mandrel bender.
Also, as others mentioned, listen to the different exhaust setups in person. A lot of us will be at Moroso in October (see here (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=47464)). This would be a good opportunity.

I know what you mean... Super 44s + 4" delete tips are an aquired taste... I'm sure my neighbors hate my set-up too...
Putting the car on the dyno tomorrow and plan on recording it. I will post some clips if I can figure it out.

I'm a big fan of the Dynomax Ultra Flo weldeds. Straight through design and very quiet. I remember installing them on my stang and taking the flowmaster 40's off. I thought for sure the car would be way louder. When infact she' quieted up a bit untill I hit the loud pedal.
You can't beat straight through designs like the Ultra Flo's and Magnaflow's. Good performance and reasonable sound control. I plan on putting either ones on my car if I'm not happy with how she sounds after I remove the 2 back cats.

Sound/vid clip???
I too like the straight-through style mufflers. Most manufacturers make several styles, so be aware when you're shopping.

Amen to that, live and in person is the only way to decide what you want your car to sound like.
