Last Tuesday I was issued a brand new 2008 Crown Victoria P71 at work. I will post up pics tomorrow. I was in Orlando all weekend for two car shows. I turned in my 1999 CVPI that I had since new. I only ever had minor problems with the car and she never left me stranded!
The new one is of course much quicker than my 99. It also has a nice growl when you step on it. I tried to go easy on it for the first 500 miles but on Thursday we got a call for a Bank Robbery in progress (We caught the guy!) and later in the shift I had to respond to check on a Deputy on a traffic stop that wasn't answering his radio (He was okay, radio died.). So I did find that the new car does move along very well.
And I love that new car smell!

Panther is simply the platform the MM, Crown Vic, Grand Marquis, and Lincoln Town Car and Blackwood lol are built off of.
We all have panthers.
none compare to MM on power, but CV are most reliable IMO.

Panther is the name of the platform that crown vics, grand marquis, marauders, and town car are built on. Sort of like how the older Mustangs were called the "Fox body"

Were you one of the last to have a '99?

I wish Baltimore City Police Department had new Vics, we still have Chevy Caprices in our fleet....What a shame.........

I walked right by one of your fine fleet Caprices in Canton this afternoon. They are the biggest pieces of excrement for a patrol car ever put into service. Didn't you guys also have a non-Panther car before the Caprice? Anyhoo, thanks for your service,

Yea, it only had 77,100 on it too. For about 5 1/2 years of the 9 I had it I had a desk job and only drove about 20 miles a day, hence the low mileage. Going to make for a nice fleet car.

Nice ride you are a lucky man, do you notice a big improvement over the way the new p71 steers and handles compared to your 99?

Nice ride, you boys sure know how to put a lot of stuff in a CV!
I have a question regarding the instrument cluster on the newer CVs and GMs that have the tach as standard equipment- it appears from your pictures that there are fuel and temp gauges between the speedo and tach. What did Ford do with the volt and (fake) oil pressure gauges? Do these cars have idiot lights for volts and oil pres?

Very very nice. We were just told we'll be getting 4 new black and whites. Unfortunatley they will be going to the feild training officers. They ordered a bunch of new Crown Vic's, but naturally they go to the detectives and the admin because of course they need new cars and the patrol division does not:mad2:...but I digress...
