View Full Version : H1 bulbs for foglights?

Bought an HID conversion kit for the foglights and got H1 bulbs that are slightly similar to the lamps in the foglights with the base appearing to be for a different application. The OE ones go in and turn clockwise to lock. What the hell kind are they? Everyone says they're H1. The H1 kit I got has capsule bulbs that have no apparent way of being retained. Anyone wanna chime in on this one? On a side note - I know it says "figlights" so go ahead and make goofy jokes.

The top bulb in your picture looks like a H1 (though it's hard to tell from the angle) but the bottom is definitely NOT - it looks like either a 9005 or 9006.

The Sylvania website says the foglights use H1, and the headlights use 9007. Where your foglight bulb shown at bottom came from is beyond me. Maybe you have aftermarket fog lights??

Nope - they're the Cibie's that came with it. I cannot identify the bulb with anything. The closest thing is an H4 but it has a metal base.

The fogs are H1's. On the bottom pic the the H1 bulb pulls straight out of the socket. Silver base and all. Show a pic of the bottom of the HID.

Cibie is the manufacturer of the foglight housing for those that don't know.

I didn't know the silver part came off. Now I have to figure out how to make the HID's work. D'oh.

There is a thread on this mod. Search for HID foglight mod.

But he general gist is remove old bulb. Drill hole into the center of housing. Thread HID wires through hole and secure bulb to housing. Wire to ballast and ballast to foglight harness.

H1 HIDs are different from the H1 halogen OEM bulbs. As stated earlier you'll have to remove the H1 halogen and then modify the base (the part that goes into the foglight housing) to use the H1 HID.
