I got my intake spacer...
How long do these usually take to install? Just curious if I want to try and throw it in tonight.

Not long, Brutha...
Under an hour...
The only glitch is getting the EGR tube back on...
Good Luck...
ALOHA
BTW: There is a sequence in the removal and installation of the intake bolts...

Roughly 60 - 90 minutes, unless you have a beer in one hand. Then double the time.

Dont take the EGR tube off, just loosen the bolts til they are almost out. Then retighten them at the end of the install.
As for the sequence, HAH! Not necessary.

WATCH HOW MUCH YOU TORQUE the bolts!
The required torque is measured in IN-LBS.
If I recall correctly : I think that it is @ 89 IN-LBs.
I will check the service manual when I get home tonight.
When I did my intake spacer I was going to do it by the; 'That feels about right wrench tug" method.
Then I got a good look at the thin bolts and soft aluminum intake manifold and went out and bought a Sears IN-LB Torque wrench.
The wrench also works great when installing steel spark plugs in our aluminum-not many thread cylinder heads
You dont need to torque the upper intake

You are correct.... 89 in. lb. on the upper intake bolts.

I think he is just saying he did not want to over-tighten them in fear of stripping out the aluminum threads.
I, like Zack, (Yes, I like Zack too) did not use a torque wrench. It is 89 in/lb per manual, but a bit more than snug is good. (I did use the recommended torque pattern, just 'cause I'm fussy) this is a non bearing part, so torque and patterns is not critical. (always a good idea to keep your skilz up though)

I did it by feel and did the pattern. So far so good with little over 40k miles since its been on.

I guess that I must be a gorilla with a socket wrench...:o
I'm not good at guesstimating 7.5 Ft-Lbs...

For gorillas, I recommend using a nut driver, not a monkey wrench....
Ha, that was funny.....
Really though, if using a nut driver, you will only be able to get so much torque on it. not enough the break anything, but enought o keep it tight.

So my 1/2" breaker bar with a 3 ft cheater pipe on the end is a "NO GO" ????

To small as you should use the one inch impact with 250 lbs of air! :bs:

Do you need a new tune with an intake spacer? I have been tempted to get one but have not as of yet.

I doubt it...you are just adding a little plenum volume.

what do you get by adding a spacer
what do you get buy adding a spacer
About 1/2" less hood clearance.

And a thinner wallet.

Thanks guys.
I have a 3/4" breaker bar I'll be using for the installation. (actually I have an in-lbs I'll be using, thanks for the specs)
I got it for pretty damn cheap. After I get done installing it and having the rear cats bypassed I'm hitting the dyno again.

I hope you dont have to pay for dyno time, cause the gain is not gonna be worth the dyno $$$$

Zack are you saying its not worth it

I don't think the spacer gives you any more HP or TQ.
It opens up the Intake Plenum and allows the air to flow a little more freely.
The Throttle Body is still the first restriction.
Unless you swap it out for a larger T/B, you won't see anything in a gain.
You just may see the curve move horizontally.

Did you know the 10.3 Trilogy car has the stock TB?

I get dyno time for the cost of an 18 pack. Wouldn't you play around on one too if you had access like that?
The Stock TB on these 4v cars arn't bad at all. I made over 300rwhp in a foxbody with a stock 55mm tb. If I remember correctly isn't the MM a twin 52?
I worked on the rear speakers and my dads car tonight. Jason is going to come over and we're gona do the spacer on Saturday.

Zack are you saying its not worth itI'm not speaking for Zack, but the plenum spacer doesn't ADD any power. What it does do is slightly broaden the power band in the mid-range to make the engine FEEL more responsive in ordinary driving. I have one on Phoebe and can feel it. I doubt retuning after installation would gain you anything.
Doing the spacer along with underdrive pulleys makes a definite difference.

I'll have an overlay of the dynographs too. Only problem is I'm having the rear cats deleted at the same time. It'll be intresting to see what happens. After this I'm pretty much done with the car untill I decide on underdrives and maybe a custom X-pipe. Maybe a little blue bottle in the back. :)

Intake spacer and LT headers, that's where you will see the big difference.

I believe the stock TB is dual 57mm.

That sounds right.
Damn Zack you really are a speed nutcase. I love it. So do the big cars respond well to the instant torque?

I was thinking just the other day that a small shot of NOS might be just the ticket to help launch my Marauder with centri supercharger. Something to consider down the road when I have money again.

Hey Zack, is that the kit you got from me?

Anyone on here have a spacer on a Merc with a CAR Motorsports hoodliner? I am concerned about the spacer causing the uppder intake to rub and damage the hoodliner.
Thanks.

its possible that it could do that. I dont even have a spacer and my JLT already rubs
I think i have heard of the spacer causing rubbing issues. you could get a hood insulator out of another panther, and use it just to make sure nothing rubs if you do install a spacer
