I want to monitor my runs with the laptop and xcal2 mainly to track the
shift points, what are some other important things I should try to log?

Air/fuel, fuel pressure, spark, and IAT. Oh one other thing, my rear bumper.

In addition to what's mentioned above (spark, IAT, fuel pressure), you may want to include velocity, RPM, retard, sources, analogs (e.g., wideband / map), MAF, STFTs, load, TCC, etc.
